Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

The nonsense of these layoffs

Can anybody really answer the question what does the company thinks that it’s gaining with these layoffs? This just looks to me like the company giving up easily on knowledgeable and capable people, while piling up layers and layers of management.

It's for profit, and nothing else. I was there when the CP did it, and the UP. unfortunately I wish I could tell you brighter days are just ahead, but I can't. If the NS starts down the PSR road, then there's no stopping it. It has and always will be about shareholder returns. When the investors start crying their returns not being high enough, the hedge fund managers start applying pressure on the corporate world to increase returns. PSR has nothing to do with operational efficiency. The cuts will take place and locations will close to achieve the illusion of efficiency. That in return makes the investors happy. Therefore they're much more willing to invest more into the business. I'm sorry hear the NS is doing it now, but I think we could all agree it was going happen anyways. Profiting shareholders railroading or PSR is an ugly plan, that the employees will pay the price for. God bless you all

we should all just rally around the company during this difficult time for we in the crafts and go in everyday we are afforded the privilege to either show up or be on-call and put in an honest day for an honest pay. everyone knows when the man or woman comes around you pay him or her and that is exactly what we should do from beginning of the day/shift to the very end, whether it's seven hours or sixteen hours just give NS everything NS deserves, which is every inch of every single one of us in the almighty crafts. because we all know without each and everyone of us this operation would absolutely fall apart. just do everything you can to help get the NS stock price to $300 a share before the end of 2021 and we can all retire after that.
