For crying out loud...if you don't know the difference in direct vs. indirect, I can assure you that you are a direct charge employee...and frankly, lucky to be still employed.

The direct/indirect question is normally defined as: Direct = hourly employees (are paid at an hourly rate); Indirect = salaried employees (paid a flat salary per month/year).

Indirect employee does not mean contract employee. There are quite a few indirect employees in engineering that are Honeywell

Direct Employee = HoneyHell employee
Indirect Employee = Contracted employee, easily let go with a phone call to contract house.

Direct = charing a customer contract
Indirect = charging the company internally (e.g. training or department meetings, for engineering)

Engineers have been notified to keep indirect at a minimum

Maybe some of the directors without direct reports will get hit. No wait, that's crazy talk. If it happens it will be our indirect staff, chief, and fellows: the guys who actually know something.

RIF is unlikely unless the person is unable to transition to direct labor.
bottom line is that they are unable to hire enough bodies to meet operating revenue commitments.
there is work .. just no skilled labor left.
and despite DA going on the circuit saying "What recession .. I see no recession"... he still cancelled every hiring req other than ignorant new-grads.
