The company I work do a lot fo commuity and charity projects and have UK staff awards for staff for the best in... article writing, winning work, team collaboration, customer collaboration, best client feedback, whatever. They win 3 grand to donate to a charity of their choice.
They also rally teams from local offices to all help out with a given community projects, landscape or beach clean-ups (a lot of other companies join in too) or it could be helping a local school or hospice project.
They also sponsor forums to invite local SME's startups or leads from a particular sector to get insight and guidance from each other on digital implementation, GDPR or whatever the latest govenment legislation is. I don't feel there's any sales pressure other than the logo'd pads on the desks and banners guiding the direction from reception, its more about getting a vibe going where people are happy to share share ideas and good practice and even their experiences with suppliers.
There are also customer's coming together and putting down their competetive differences and sharing ideas (nothing too proprietary) at quarterly forums which has resulted in a few of them finding out about cloud suppliers that have had a good reputation in that particular sector and seeking them out for work. I've even seen 3 clients form a consortiuum to seek very good deals from a supplier for the same service, just by coming together and seeking the same cloud service.
I did a guest speaker bit at one forum and met some great people. Something I would never have been able to do at DXC, as too much inward cost cutting and frowning on even a cup of coffee. Stuff like this never flew because they couldn't see a quick return on investment for their shareholders.
My firm sponsor a lot of interest groups and always looking for more ways to engage staff and customers in mutually beneficial pursuits. They also invest a lot in staff as they want staff are their best assets and want them to stay. They also invest in management development and motivational techniques to ensure staff have the right support.
I've seen big firms who spend more on posters, articles and websites telling everyone about their corporate responsibility and how much carbon they've saved by selling off something they didn't want anyway, but very few and sustained proactive actions fromt he top down.
