Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle is not an asset on your resume

The truth is that any place is better. No job security doesn't exist out there. But toxicity in the work environment, at the levels it exists at O, is truly outside of the norm. The biggest issue you will face is that having O on your resume in today's job market is a handicap. I found that the only way around it was to lean into and talk about it in the interview process. I ask interviewers directly if they have any problem with me having O on my resume. Inevitably, they all say yes and the reason they give is that they believe the employees are all institutionalized in "The O" way. This is a good thing. If you can get an interviewer to tell you their prejudice then you can address it. What is better than the workplace toxicity of O itself ... well, let's start with death by a thousand paper cuts, and work up from there. You won't know how bad it is or how much you've come to tolerate until you are free of it. Then you'll resolve to never let it happen again.

I don't agree with this. Many people from Oracle are getting hired at Microsoft, AWS, Google, and many other places. If you're decent and have up to date skills, you will find a job in this market and a lot more pay.

My experience mirrored fsd's. I left after 15 years, this was not seen as a bad thing. I explained that I was leaving (I was not RIF'd) because they were divesting from the areas I worked on and that I wanted to work on relevant products. Everyone was fine with that story.

Everything you said is 100% true, however I would add, some are downright apathetic to their employees. And Every company can be considered toxic, it depends on who you talk to. Talk to 10 different people in 10 different locations and you'll get ten different answers as to what they consider a toxic company. And what they consider a company whose employees have great skills. it does cut both ways,

I left Oracle two years ago after 10 years. It is seen as a strength, not a weakness, on my resume. I would, however, advise that the number of new Oracle projects have declined significantly, so as the years go buy, your technical skills will grow stale, something you do not want in this industry.

Odd how you can pick most any company on this site and read essentially the same comments. Would make you think they're all toxic, management s—s, and any other company is better, that is until you get to another and have a silar experience.

News flash, all companies operate to make $ and the job is what you make of it, none are intentionally out to make your life miserable while employed there.
