Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Official - Chesterfield RDC to close

all delivery staff in Chesterfield are to be made redundant using a 15 day consultation which I believe is illegal!

Clients not been told yet, it is impossible to do this without the service being totally broken, appears that DXC don’t care!

All people working in UK sites, can go and work for the register.co.uk cause you folks give out all DXC internal emails and communications to this news org. So essentially you folks go to Heathrow and get a flight to a cheaper location and find work there !

You’re a bit late to post this.

Sure other sites can have the networks to support accounts but with no knowledge transfer and 300+ staff from deliver leaving will they have the manpower?

I feel truly sorry for those in Chesterfield affected by this. Most of us in the IT trade have gone through this once or twice in our careers as it is how companies seem to operate these days.

I work at DXC. Legislation is being followed correctly and the notification and consultations is ongoing and has been for a few weeks now. Anyone who thinks it isn't doesn't understand the process and should challenge their manager, who will show them this is being done properly.

In terms of connectivity, there is enough in place in all centers to allow a pretty seemless move.

People affected need to focus on themselves and seek help from colleagues and their professional network, not worry about the business. Good people are never out of work for long.

One does wonder why everyone is just rolling over and taking this sh1t? Why aren’t PCS and Unite being more vocal? Lions led by Donkeys does come to mind.

First they came for Chorley, I said nothing

Then they came for Chesterfield, I said Nothing

Then they came for Tewkesbury, I said nothing

Then they came for Cobalt, and there was no one left to speak for me!

Good luck people!

It's nice to see people in Peterlee stirring the pot by informing people in Chesterfield what's going on, people in Chesterfield have enough to consider and worry about without some know-it-all whipping up the hate.

@ZXbvEIY-tba There are people from MOJ crosstraining up at Cobalt for the DWP help desk as it is coming to Peterlee.

When I left voluntarily, I was specifically told not to tell my client I was leaving, so I wound up just leaving, and I do not know when the client found out, probably the second meeting I missed....

@ZXbvEIY-amy There are already DWP network links in Cobalt; I suspect the same will be true of any other government accounts.

Pretty sure you can’t VPN onto the DWP network on site used for Service Desk fixes - some secure work still needs to be done on site, obviously networks can be moved, but customers need to be told and authorise it

several secure networks on site aren’t there,... EVER hear of VPN access, you don't need to be on-site to support much these days. Just some hands and feet people to touch stuff. The whole of the UK people can support secure sites.

In the USA you're lucky if you get 6 hours notice of your termination.

How do they expect to square this with the customers? There are several secure networks on site aren’t there, some of them client networks? How do DXC expect to move everything so quickly and maintain service?

I expect they don’t care!

There will be significantly more people leaving DXC on 31st July than those working out of Chesterfield.

General process is a pool group notification detailing the definition of the CR pool and the number expected to receive CR. Then individual consultation follows within a day or so to conclude within 15 days.

The legal collective consultation is different and has already concluded I expect. This commenced before the VR email we all received on the 28th May.

They are experts at this for sure!

Remember, this is about playing our part in driving efficiencies whilst delivering on the commitments to grow our business and improve our margins.

Ah well ...

For a consultation aren’t you supposed to have an individual meeting to start the consultation? If so then they definitely haven’t done so to all affected staff

I think the OP is slightly mistaken. The first notification to the affected staff was sent on Tuesday 25th June, with a proposed exit date of Wednesday 31st July. So that's 5 weeks. Slightly more than 30 days. The 15 days is what is left now after today when the full intention to go ahead with the pools was announced. However I'm pretty sure that more than 100 people are affected so it should have been 45 days

Sorry for the hard working Chesterfield people.

But this sounds like BS to me, where is the announcement? I've not heard anything official.

Firstly, sorry for those in Chesterfield who are losing their jobs.

If DXC are not planning on meeting their legal obligations regarding consultation periods they could be taken to employment tribunals. However there probably isn't much to be gained by employees in doing so; it's hassle and DXC aren't saying 'no consultation' they're just planning a shorter consultation than is strictly legal.

Sadly, whatever may happen at a tribunal won't change the end result.

15 days is illegal, statutory minimum is 30 days. Two sources renovo and peninsulagrouplimited...

How long is the period of consultation?

While there is no time limit for how long the period of consultation should be, if you are making between 20 and 99 people redundant then the consultation must start at least 30 days before anyone is dismissed. If you are making 100 or more redundancies, the consultation must start at least 45 days prior to any dismissals

To safely bring the contract of employment to an end, you must issue the employee with proper statutory or contractual notice.
