Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

UK&I Managers take note

You will be executing company orders and culling staff. It’s company orders so I appreciate you don’t have a choice.

Given I have nearly 20 years service in this company, I will give you some advice. Today it’s them, tomorrow it’s you.

There is a hidden policy in this company where they absolutely understand having the hatchet man around after the culling is negative for staff morale and productivity. And for those sceptics thinking WTF, yes they do care when it suits them.

In 20 years I have not seen a single manager who did cuts survive. To the Chorley people ask yourself where is FH and all her cronies? Every UK&I VP got fired in Lawrie’s reign too.

So treat your staff with respect, if you can afford them some breaks and not completely screw them over do it because your next.

I had to lay-off numerous people in my time there and never once did I believe I would be spared the knife. Humanity and compassion was all I had and the fact that we were in it together. I ignored all the HR directives and gave my staff early warning when I knew they were on a list and helped them to find other jobs, prepare their resumes, and give them recommendations and explain to future employers that they were not a problem, it was the company. In the end, I guess there is karma because I was able to secure another job before I got the ax and have never looked back. What I have left is my dignity and a lot of close relationships that will span companies. I've even been able to hire DXC employees at my new place and they are extremely grateful and hard working.

It "pays" to be greedy and not care about people, but there are far more important things than money. I wonder how many people would show up for ML's funeral if there was no financial incentive or threat to be there.

I've seen many come and go and the sentiment is true. When you'v e finished your cull , then you get the chop.

Fully agree about shoddy treatment.

I've personally heard more than one manager swap stories about finally being able to get the sticky c-ap ones and them remembering the look on their faces when they told them.

@ZKbVpDu-qez - unfortunately beg to differ - the DXC managers were smiling, nasty and laughing + other staff when they got rid of me as their job and their staff wing were safe for now,. The good news for me they lost the expertise, knowledge transfer and have ever since lost projects and customers, plus they have to lay off more of their staff under their wings but the management is still safe at the moment from any threat of redundancy.

"I was the guy laying people off at another company over several years -- 17 in all before the reaper came for me"

I bet the 17 you let go were really sorry it happened to you!

I was in a group w 4 leaders and they laid off 95% of the team to off shore. Yes then they were all laid off. They were honest and as compassionate as they could have been. We got a lot of hints and notice ahead of time. Only contractually required US positions are now left. And DxC is STILL trying to find a way around that.

I would guess that the person who wrote "WHOEVER WIELDS..." was never a manager, or especially one who needed to lay people off. I was the guy laying people off at another company over several years -- 17 in all before the reaper came for me. I can certainly speak for myself and anyone I knew who had to do this. Nobody liked it and no one was smug about it. I have been laid off at another company since when many others were being laid off as well. It s---s on both sides. It's easy to be an individual contributor and portray the line managers as cold and in it for themselves. Do you think their whole personality changed when they moved from individual contributor to line manager? Not likely. Having to lay someone off is by far the worst duty a manager has. If you don't know this, you should ask someone who has had to do it.

Disagree never met any managers within DXC who care for their employee's welfare and plight - don't care about you going and don't look into the future on their plight - all they want is their paycheck to pay for bling stuff like holidays, cars, gadgets - they don't care about anyone else nor do they care about your plight if you're working night, weekends doing more than one persons' job, working whilst you on vacation, sick, no training, knowledge transfer to staff in low cost centres but if you do anything slightly wrong you get jumped on immediately.

They truly do not give a sh--e. Managers (so called), who don’t even know what their staff do, nor care less, it’s been like this for years. As you say, they think they are immune, but they aren’t. They will be next, hopefully.

WHOEVER WIELDS THE KNIFE, NEVER WEARS THE CROWN

When your manager reads the CR script , don't believe the

"I wish I didn't have to do this" .

What your manager is really saying is this ......

"To keep my job, I have to select you for termination - TBH, I don't really care as I knew when I took over the role that I would have to be part of the WFR selection team, and this means I'm kept on a bit more.

BTW, I'm hungry, its lunch time and you've always been on the list anyway so lets get it over with.

I can't admit it really, but being in this position does make me a little stiff; I quite like being in charge of sh*ting on menials, because it makes me feel powerful.

However, I do need to hide this by saying sorry to you, but as you well know from my smug smile as I say it to you, it does give me a kick"

Just politely remind the c*nt, they're next....
