Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Unite the union (Chesterfield staff).... don’t bother

As someone already posted, Chesterfield people... do not waste £14 a month signing up to the union.

They are a mostly waste of time and money. Perhaps the only benefit they can offer you is if you have issues at work then having a union representing you makes it a tad difficult for DXC to f--- you over.

They used to say in the CSC days they need more members to organise strikes etc. It’s called collective bargaining... the more members the better deal we can negotiate. Bit like paying the heavies to go and fight for you. Well guess what, over 10,000 HPE staff merged with CSC and it still isn’t enough for the bozo Len Mcclusky to take notice. How many more f---ing members does he need. Granted not all HPE staff were members, but whatever they bought was more than what CSC could have conjured up.

Lots of sites have closed before Chesterfield and nobody could do a damn thing. The collective VR numbers for this qtr are higher than 300 staff that you have. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if your site is genuinely marked for closure get your CV brushed up and start looking for a job.

Hoping the union will save the day is more wishful thinking than using a chocolate fire guard.

unions are there to help during Tupe transfers, it stops the likes of dxc setting the rules, I have been tupe'd when outsourced to HP, HPE, Manpower and DXC.
terms and conditions were kept, in case of redundancy and pension rights too
without the unions I'd be up sh1t creek without a paddle

Given you're so dead against the union, I assume you must either be senior management or offer them your wholehearted support.

DXC higher ups hate organised labour and employee protections gained by union campaigns over many decades. That's why they refer to EU countries as "complex countries" cos they can't just stiff their employees there like they can in the US now with virtually no notice and a few days pay in hand.

It's interesting how many union reps' have been offered VR in recent years and how few people have put their hands up to replace them, making the union's job that much harder. Some might be tempted to suggest that anyone who wants VR should sign up as a rep and you're at the top of the list (of course this observer would never suggest anything so cynical).

@ZD2qjmM-1ftn Unite might not edit the Guardian but how come they (you presumably) didn't bother to try and get this into national news. Its news worthy isn't it?

Did you try or did you just put it on your Facebook page - actually, you didn't even do that.

I guess all those 14 quid's paid for someone to attend a Labour party drinks party or to have a meeting to discuss the plight of the Palestinians....anything but actually working for DXC employees.

Yeah, that's why you don't get my money.

As far as I'm aware, Unite does NOT edit the Guardian newspaper... perhaps you should have included this link instead:

https://www.theguardian.com/help/contact-us

or the following email address:

guardian.letters@theguardian.com

I think union power in CSC/DXC is a dead duck. The management have several wins against even mass walkouts, I don't think it would scare them or even cause a pause in their thinking.

I believe in Union power, I think its a force for good, but I am not a member here because even as well as my statement above, Unite does not give a damn about DXC. I guess with us being "well paid middle class" we are actually a subject of hate to them. It certainly feels like that.

I did notice yesterday though that Centrica announcing 600 jobs cuts warranted front page news, but our loss of 2150 didn't:

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/jun/19/centrica-owner-of-british-gas-plans-to-axe-700-jobs-in-the-summer

Equally, 1200 people to go at Debenhams, also news:

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/jun/19/centrica-owner-of-british-gas-plans-to-axe-700-jobs-in-the-summer

etc etc.... we don't count because we are "too well off" to be talked about.

Class war eh?
