Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

We are right back where we started from

Been in tech since 1994. Microsoft is what it is today because It was NOT broken up after the 2001 Anti trust trial. It was allowed to continue along as an upgrade cash machine, in a somewhat bumbling fashion under salesman Ballmer, until they got (another) engineer with vision in charge. They also had no compunctions about consumer products because they were just getting serious about the Enterprise market with Windows NT and Exchange Server.

And now they are undeniably one of the big Cloud players with a built in defacto migration and upgrade path for the zillions of businesses using Windows, et al. Now we know who wins the centralized vs. decentralized argument. We are right back where we started from, a bunch of terminals connected to the mainframe, and sysadmin is the all powerful ruler.

You obviously have no idea what sarcasm is so you would the last person on earth to throw intellectual pejoratives around. Have you even seen a time share system?

"because you work cheap"

Another misconception. Your younger replacement makes more, if not the same as you did.

"arguing over screwdrivers."

Shamefully, it's actually one of the more valid arguments found here.

Some of the best people I've worked with have been "older". However those same people have always been energetic and keen to keep learning, reinventing themselves.

Some of the worst people I've worked with are "older" people who are arrogant because they've "done it all before".

I always valued the older and/or more experienced people on any team or company where I have worked. It has served me well. Go ahead and enjoy being young and educated, but completely inexperienced in how things actually work. Make all the mistakes you could have avoided or mitigated. Have fun cleaning up the messes you make. I’ll be over here LMFAO at your supposed superiority, where your employer only values you because you work cheap and can be lead around by the nose. You won’t be young forever so you better join the FIRE movement, make your million and get out before age 40. It. Will. Happen. To. You.

" power drill is a glorified hand drill"

Um, it also functions for driving screws too; not only drilling. Maybe you should know what you're talking about??

"pay attention to the wisdom of your elders."

When all else fails, fall on the 'wisdom' line.

"power drill is a glorified hand drill"

The fact that you actually wrote/believe sans sarcasm that warrants no retort; you're self-id--tic.

@Z422ctw-1elt, you get it.

@Z422ctw-qwl, you should pay attention to the wisdom of your elders.

There isn’t going to be anything new, really truly new in the world of IT until another mind comes into existence. That will be AI and it will be either magnificent or horrible or both.

No, the technicals are different, the paradigm is the same. You obviously don't know hte difference. And for the record, a power drill is a glorified hand drill. You know, brace and bit, yankee push drill, not a screwdriver. Before you show your superiority, learn what you are talking about first.

There's a lot of "it's just mainframes all over again" attitude at Oracle when referring to the cloud.

That's half the reason the company is in the toilet, LE looked at it and said "yeah we already do that".

"back where we started from, bunch of terminals connected to the mainframe"

I find it humorous when old-folks break out the 'been there, done that' spiel. Hey, it's a little more complicated and nuanced than that. Next you'll be telling us a power drill is just a glorified screwdriver.
