Thread regarding SAP layoffs

Stealth layoffs will always exist at SAP

When the management teams noticed that the numbers are not meeting their expectations, they will consult with the incompetent and unethical HR teams to come up with a "right sizing" strategy. They will cut the long term, fully competent employees because they cost too much. They will down grade the job position so they don't have to pay as much; as for the quality of the new hires, once they have filled the head count, it is someone else's problem now. These are the kind of games being played at SAP.

As for the job grade and salary level, they are not revealed to the employees because HR does not want them to know where they are on the salary scale (there is a big $$$ gap in between the different ends of the scale) so they don't know whether they are being paid fairly or not or know what to strive for. Most employees are not aware of this kind of information because HR wants to keep them in the dark so they don't know what questions to ask. When you ask them for more details, they will tell you to go talk to your manager then your manager will ask you to consult with HR. Lots of dirty tricks by HR

Rules may differ per country and subject to unions approval. You may not have access to this information on the portal if this has not been approved.

I can tell you I could see such info, straight from the portal. I did not need to ask Manager nor HR.

FYI, I am not in Germany.

Job grade and salary level: I agree that each individual contributor "should" be provided with that kind of information, it is the employee's right to know. I asked my manager (based in Germany) to provide that kind of information and was told I should talk to HR about it. When I contacted HR about this, I was told to talk to my manager about it. Basically, I was getting the runaround and no one wants to provide me with that kind of information. I didn't want to stir up too much trouble with HR and my manager so I didn't pursue the information further. Most employees are kept in the dark on purpose because they don't want the employees to talk about this topic among themselves for obvious reasons. This is just another example that many line managers are irresponsible and don't really care about their direct reports.

job grade and salary level: they are available to each Individual Contributor for their own job in their own country. so you know where you are on the pay scale

managers have full visibility on all grades & salary levels

Thats where you are wrong, and very naive. HR is not there to support and help employee's be successful, HR exists solely to try and shield the company from lawsuits and controversy. Im shocked you don't know that.

I have worked for many companies but I have never seen HR teams with so many directors without any direct reports. Just to name a few - regional director, special projects director, diversity and inclusion director, merger and acquisition director etc. They are all getting fat pay cheques because of their job title but you must wonder what they actually do to earn their pay. Definitely not what they are hired to do - to support the employees and make sure they are successful at SAP. By the way, most of the HR team members are female so where is the gender equality there? Run some HR reports to reveal the true picture.

Management gives Head of HR a good compensation so she always sings to their tune. The rest of HR knows they are as good as any man that can be picked up on the street, so they will always obey management to keep their jobs. The good ones move on.
