Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Why companies now dislike telecommuting

This is not my post but I thought it was relevant to BAC...

=========

It's a part of a bigger shift to hire younger folks with lower salary requirements.

Here is how the scam works (many companies are doing this):

  • Create a hub 'only' model
  • Put hubs in urban areas where nobody with a kids would want to live
  • Put hubs in areas with high student concentration (close to colleges)
  • Discontinue telecommuting
  • Wave old-timers goodbye - no severance as they quit on their own
  • Welcome new, fresh from college, hires
  • Watch new hires, grow old and leave on their own once they want to form a family
  • Voila! Mission accomplished...

Just go and please see what IBM, Bank of America, State Farm and others are doing right now - this is a massive trend in the Fortune 100 world and will be spreading to other areas of the economy too. It s---s but they did find a loophole to avoid being punished for #AgeDiscrimination, #H1B abuse, #NoTelecommuting, etc... So, in short - that was the plan to ki-l #Telecommuting

The work from home concept is from an age gone by, when productivity and innovation really mattered! Now, breaking down the silos and complete transparency is the norm where everyone can see, hear, and know exactly what everyone else is doing so those precious work minutes are not lost on any unaccountable task no matter how useless. Kind of like being in the old Soviet Union, or East Germany, where socialist values created a supposed Nirvana, just look how that ended up; so how will this turn out?

Loop holes.. You mean like laying folks off. Then hiring them back as contractors so they don't have to pay benefits??? That loop hole??? Just lay them off every year for a few months then bring them back in. Some just remain contractors indefinitely. Those fools work 60 hours but can only charge for 40, yet they do it just to have jobs with being hired as an FTE carrot over their heads. Cant blame the company for those id--ts.

Absolutely, positively correct! I got caught up in that myself...Manager no longer wanted the older worker (me) so said "can't be a MyWork associate anymore, must go into an office". Found no room in any offices within 50 miles of me because my team was not hq'd anywhere in my part of the country. So tried to get another job in the Bank...nope. Manager got frustrated so stopped giving me work, raises and bonuses over three years. I looked for other jobs but was told "not hiring anyone outside of a hub city". After three years...got the layoff call. Found out that week it was really because there was a 30-something my manager wanted to promote but could not as long as I was in the position. Very glad I don't work in this ridiculous company anymore!!

That's absolutely true. I hear those suburban folks are the best.

The innovation coming the suburbs is outstanding 😂🤣

That's the reason the most technologically advanced companies are setting up shop in the suburbs (NOT)..... They want to be close to the talent which happens to be in the suburbs...... 😂😂😂

Why don't you say what you really Mean?

Spot on. Don't forget GOVT subsidies for hiring inner city folk. Our "diversification" strategy, hiring foreign workers, has all of corporate America less loyal to it's American workers. Hell, who in GT&O doesn't have accent these days?

Get out while u can. I did

Agreed, and then they throw in the "open work concept" to further weed out the older folks.
