What a great initial post as it provoked several emotions / reactions at once. We've seen a few reasons; near retirement, enjoyment from customer satisfaction (from someone impacted through acquisition), fear of inability to find another job, and the semi-perverse awe from watching this train wreck unfold in slow motion.
I've seen other reasons too; good team / colleagues, still getting net positive value as an employee (for recent hires), hope for leadership change, head in the sand, etc.,
Me, with the exception of nearing retirement, I probably had all of those other reasons (including head in the sand), but in 2017 I had my fill and left of my own volition. It wasn't easy, and I failed initially ... twice. But here in 2019, I'm doing well and have been for closing on a year.
For those approaching retirement - best wishes, I hope you make the last leg of your journey. For those new to the company and still positive / enjoying it - good luck, it won't last unless significant changes are made above which likely won't happen anytime soon. For the others that feel trapped, my sympathies - I'd still recommend be ready to depart as RIFs/WFRs are still happening regularly. Friends and colleagues of mine had this happen to them, with all the signs there, but were still not prepared. It was more painful, for a longer period of time than it needed to be. When looking you'll find many tools / options to consider that may make finding the next stop easier or better prepare you to make the switch - good luck!
