This is a master thread about Pearson PLC Layoffs in 2019?

They just cleaned house again. All of Field Marketing & 40% of the salesforce! It is a dying industry & those few that I respect & remained highly advise getting out of it! Pearson is also really good a making sure you don’t get any bonus pay on the way out! What a sad demise of a company that long ago was one of the best to work for!
So Global Product in Higher Ed laid off all of editorial and had everyone reapply for a reduced number of positions. That was in April. A few weeks ago, Product Marketing got the same deal. Today, Field Marketing were all laid off. This extends from executive MMs down to assistants. The company is providing 2 weeks of severance for every year, with Cobra healthcare subsidization. HR of course couldn’t answer exactly HOW much they are subsidizing during the severance period. And if you get another job, severance stops. Not sure how they find that out though if you are careful. Maybe via the healthcare.
Heard from friend in Higher Ed product development that he was laid off yesterday. Boston based. And, of course, older and long time.
HED Portfolio is about to be hit hard. They are doing the same c-ap they did with Marketing 5 years ago, splitting one job into two. Word on the street is you will have the choice of a severance package or re applying. I don’t know how far down the chain this goes (below management??)
Anyone know what dept in higher ed will be getting cuts?
AP in North America laid off ... apparently they will be around till June. Higher Ed to have layoffs in Feb/March.
Well, according to the global talk this morning - more layoffs coming, primarily in Finance, Technology & HR.
Hearing March is the next scheduled major re-org?
Will the last one employed, please turn off the lights.
HED department in Spain dismantled this week. "Not profitable". From 250 staff in 2010 to around 70 now. And more layoffs to come.
I am very sorry to hear that. I have a lot of friends that still work there. Hopefully they will be able to find something they like soon.
PC is out.
Does Level 2 Customer Service Mean Program Coordinators and people like that?
Word is that all US based level 2 customer service was laid off last week. They're apparently interviewing to help train the Manila based customer service people in the Philippines. All at the expense of the customer and sales teams.
What a lousy company.
The town hall was the typical nothing burger of buzzwords and corp speak from JF & TB. .... "revolutionizing learning, talent pool has never been stronger, outlook bright, minor changes in org. structure, streamlining, efficiencies, limitless opportunities, outperforming industry, digital driving outcomes...bla, bla, bla..."
..... followed by dozens of side conversation in the Hoboken office .... meanwhile culture remains sh*tty and everyone i worried about their jobs...
So what was the announcement? We're all waiting with baited breath.
announcement at 11:00am est.....
Global product reorg announced- details going tomorrow. Sales next. I know I know, you’re as shocked as I am.
Didn't the San Antonio sales office just get liquidated? This is reported on Glassdoor, was surprised to see nothing here.
Aww @VTnvX71-sieb
Please do tell us, which of the comments were rumors ?
Slow times at the rumor mill
By selloff are you referring to the School group or Higher Ed? Been crickets on the School sale.
@VTnvX71-fqms That wasn't a dumb question.
They are offshoring almost everything to Cognizant - that's part 1 of the sell off.
Now layoffs are legal but in this case the issue is that most of their resources are *rap - but they keep increasing their numbers.
Pearson's cloud got hacked recently due to one of the Cognian't employee's actions - if was never investigated fully. Long timers are stunned that they didn't subpoena the IP addresses that the hackers used to hack their accounts. It's there in the records - but there is no action - you simply can't catch Cognizant thieves. Btw, Cognizant just got rewarded with bigger contracts. So they are in bed for the long run.
The real sell off will be next year. They know Cognizant can't produce results - so they need the US resources. How will they manage that if they layoff everyone and have Cognizant handle it alone? The solution my friend is to sell them off like cattle. Instead of laying off the US resources and paying them severances they are morally bound to do - they will RE-BADGE them to Cognizant. If you refuse you don't get severances. So that's the selloff that's coming next year.
Cognizant? What are they selling to them? I can rarely tell if this page is solely sales reps now - didn't used to be, so sorry if that is a dumb question!
LOL.
Chances are there won't be any severances for the riff raff. They will be sold off to Cognizant. Join the new masters or give up your jobs without severances. The management will keep their severances or become Cognizant honchos and get paid under the table.
Brace for it.
Might as well get an early start, it's going to be a popular topic eventually.
