Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

AIG Bloated Management

35 Year Vet of AIG. Layoffs will always be a part of this company so get used to it. They are always looking for a way to do away with jobs. They will send away jobs to the cheapest places to do business they can. They did away with the pension plan and I am sure they are looking to move the headquarters from NYC. They have been trying this for years. The CEO makes 43 Million dollars per, year and has not produced a positive quater since he was hired and can't say to this day when he will. How many more losing quarters are they willing to put up with. The STI will be the next to go as this is causing them a FORTUNE.

Is this true? Will STI go away? What is this 35 yo vet talking about?

Or is it just trolls?

I worked my a** off last year - even overtime. I guess I was living under a rock and didn't know about this site.

Its astonishing how much managers get away with and how some treat their staff. If you wouldnt treat your family like that, Dont come to work and act like an animal. HR is a disgrace not for the worker as in years past. Also never seen a co lose money and cut jobs and salaries but keep paying the execs. No wonder morale stinks. Greez walk the walk. Execs should forego bonuses till co is profitable. They have no long term motivation to succeed. Only job whos more wrong and still gets compensated is the weatherman!

Morale is very bad. Yes people are looking and trying to line up other sources of employment. There are still major RIF's to come

Yes. Morale is terrible everywhere. Most of my peers are actively looking elsewhere. I know they are RiF ing everywhere, watch for the exodus in Q1 of next year, as we will start seeing folks leave that are fed up. Even the TAP analysts are looking elsewhere, and that says a lot.

If it makes you feel better @V2QCsu3-1vnw, I had a manager who acted like that (he as an AIG old-timer) and that behavior finally caught up with him.

It's sad when you hear how Adjusters and Managers were RIF'd. No privacy to it. I witnessed it first hand. Very humiliating for the employee getting RIF'd and very unprofessional how they did it. Adjusters and Managers just waiting as employees are getting RIF'd to be the next one. Very sad.

Totally agree, this company will go to hell before / if it ever recovers. terrible place to be right now, awful management team. I'm happy I got riffed after nearly 20 years. At least i can take my money and run, hopefully greener pastures are out there.

AIG was a great place to work for years ago. Employees were respected by supervisors and management. Now they look to get the job done in the cheapest way possible. Everyone is looking to cover their butts. With the growing layers of upper management and bosses it took weeks for decisions to be made on many issues. Claim departments are very understaffed and management is to afraid to ask for help when needed. Bottom line upper management is clueless as to what's happening on the grunts level. What's happens when they lose money again in the next few quarters. Does the new CEO survive? Will they start all over again?

Yes I have seen and heard of similar scenarios in various offices. I agree with you @V2QCsu3-1vnw. I worked in an office where the AVP and his administrative assistant were both abusive and reported to HR. However, he had protection from his Manager. Both the AVP and his Manager were RIF'd in a prior Lay off. Prior to his leaving he managed to save the Admin's job that was going away. She was nasty to everyone in the Service Center. Now she's an Adjuster and things have changed for her. She can't be the bully she once was. In situations like what you are talking about, AIG is setting itself up for more class action litigation. Believe me, it has had this type of litigation in the past. The Manager you speak of must I sure is protected by someone. That too may come to an end, hopefully.

HR is the most useless team in AIG. My abusive manager had multiple teams complain about his crazy fits and language and unprofessional attitude but there was no use. He thrives to this day seemingly unscathed and has even managed to gets jobs for his kids there. Maybe HR needs to be reorged bigtime.

Wow 30 and 35 years. That's amazing. But at least you were here when it was a great place to work. Thank goodness you have a good portion of the pension and the 401 k that they use to contribute better as you worked longer. I think a lot of people are just waiting to get RIF'd. Morale is really bad. I know some of the Claims Managers are stressed like everyone else, and a few AVP's have been down right nasty. Almost to the point of bullying. I over heard a phone conversation and couldn't believe the way this AVP spoke to one of her Managers. That is unprofessional and an AVP making the salary they make shouldn't be speaking to her team that way. It's bullying and people are just afraid to elevate bullying and abuse to HR.

30 year AIG Vet here and I couldn’t agree more with this post. New CEO and his minions are not showing any results and certainly there is no improvement in morale in my division. Been the same song and dance since 2008. My eyes are wide

Open by the way. Just waiting to get my RIF and get off this crazy train. Pity really. Used to mean something to work for AIG.
