Can this be done? Some websites say you should negotiate you severance. If they give you 1 week pay for every year, ask for 2 weeks for every year. I would love to negotiate, but what if they say "okay you get nothing now.

Only thing to negotiate waa end date (for some of us NYC folks).
We could negotiate an earlier departure.
They wouldn't even find a way to make some of the younger folks' 401k matches because there were a lot of kids there less than 3 years. That was pretty awful. Especially since in YNOT's published package his 401k vests as soon as he leaves the company.
Your answer makes sense. Thank you!!!
You can absolutely negotiate. People have done it. That said when you negotiate you are rejecting their offer so they can come back and not only say no but rescind it or lower it. You also are much more likely to get nonmonetary stuff rather than extra severance. I suspect your success is also based on how much of a threat they see you as. Remember that Severance is a contract - you give up right to sue them for compensation. It’s a tit-for-tat.
In this mass layoff, it is non/negotiable.
How do you start this conversation? did you novitiate? Could they end up giving me nothing?
Yes you can negotiate with Mattel and don't take no for an answer, especially if they give you that line of crap that your position is being eliminated. Call them on it. They'll back down and increase the severance.
