Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Age discrimination investigations

Now that Intel is being investigated for possible age discrimination during layoffs and a huge deal was made about IBM for the same thing recently, any chance this will become something the industry will have to fear (and hopefully change in the way they handle layoffs?)

Or will it be just much ado about nothing once again?

i was let go at 61 myself (about 7 months ago) after 20+ years with the company i was paid a severance of 5 weeks pay :-( That said i was not asked to sign anything to receive that payment it just showed up in my bank account. I'd like to sue, where can i get more information?

Too late for justice here in the USA. Our government has recently (May,2018) had a Supreme Court Ruling that essentially blocks employees the right to collectively sue, bring a class action suit. . . The Supreme Court issued a 5–4 decision Monday in Epic Systems v. Lewis allowing employers to deprive their workers of their right to sue collectively. Its ruling, written by Justice Neil Gorsuch. This essentially leave the workers powerless since doing it on a one by one arbitration is going to be useless.

Of course, DXC is elated since last December they lost a large class action in federal court claiming their company willfully misclassified and underpaid its employees. (OT violations for system admins) This kind of judgement is a thing of the past.

: @TomwBvk-rbxn... As he's binning you anyway, challenge your selection, submit a formal grievance, contact your union rep and MAKE your manager fight to get rid of you.

The reason DXC gets away with this is because people are so sick of the company that they just take the money. I don't blame you if you want to do the same but, if you'd actually rather stay for a while, fight it.

When I got my WFR call from my manager, the first thing he said was "we all know age discrimination is illegal, but it's a fact of life...". That was in early 2016. I was just over 60. He went on to say, "but you can never prove it!"

I can't say how angry I was at the time... This was from a manager that I never met, never knew, and had spoken with only 2 to 3 timers before (newly assigned). He had no clue what I did or of my performance level, but he knew I was "too old". Now, however, I'm very glad to be out from under the daily BS and backstabbing. Life is comfortable again!

IBM & Intel are the latest tech companies coming under fire for age discrimination. Now is the time for all tech companies to review how they view employees from hiring throughout their career. Having a good plan to recruit and a weak plan (or no plan) to manage throughout employee's careers will soon be considered a real weakness in competitive hiring situations. I had been with the company for ten plus years. I got laid off (Work Force Reduction) a month after I turned sixty-two.

As an Ex-CSCer, I can for sure say that when I reached 60, there was age discrimination present at CSC. I was so pi$$ed off with the Management and Co. anyway so VR'ed and took my money and ran, (thank Christ), but it is definitely an issue. If they want to get rid of you they will.

PS Absolute Sh--e Co. to work for now!!!!
