California Claims Offices - when will we close

Wondering when we will get a closure date - they have been asking us if we want to go to Arizona, take the relocation package. Seems like they are pretty much taking anyone who is willing to go. Those that are not mobile are waiting it out, some are finding other jobs outside Allstate. Everyday we sit and wonder "is today the day" as we sit and work on our claims. We are all on edge wondering "when" Never a clear cut answer on offices actually closing, but they are sending out emails offering webinars on how to interview, and how to make a resume etc. Slowly taking away work from the office from processors and centralizing it. The Processors are slowing down, they have nbew claim tasks to pull that send work to the ABO locations, Mitchell is outsourced now for input. The Adjusters are still slammed though, too much work to be able to keep up and everyday. It's is like a ghost town because people are either out sick or on vacation and we no longer have the staff anymore. Staff is becoming bitter and Morale is low - s***s to work in the Allstate Claims offices in California right now

I worked in California for many years and NO ONE was working 14 hours a day (70:hours a week) no less 9 hours a day consistently. You clearly have no idea what the precedent case (Bednar) was even about, but it had nothing to do with number of hours worked, it was a non-exempt/exempt decision, which was based on factors other than hours worked.

That said, once the company made the decision (yes, the company made the decision. Neither the Court nor the state dictated it) to treat claim employees as hourly/non-exempt, of course the best and only option was to choose one of the 49 other states that viewed this issue differently.

Facts matter, but to a failed employee who couldn’t cut it, it’s easier to spew profanity and lies.

Unfortunately you people in CA DARED to question how 70 hours of work could get done in exempt 38-40 work week without paying overtime and YOU WON.

Take note people they WON in court.

But as everyone knows big corporations are fantastic at hiding true intentions behind a decisions and guess what! All hourly jobs from CA went to AZ! Someone from Dept of Labor or WSJ or MSNBC should pick up on this end run around labor laws.

Everyone at this declining joke of husk or old school insurance company is clinging to decline and matter of time — mismanagement combined with leaders who line their pockets with stock options running allshit into ground. Congrats on job well done aholes

It sounds to me like the Director was being transparent and honest. Would you prefer he blow sunshine up your a** and tell you how great the plan is ? If you made a career change because of the medical plan, that’s where your priorities are.

I left the Utah claims office Jan of 2018 and haven’t been happier. I had been with Allstate in various capacities since 2000. Now that I’ve been out for a year I can honestly tell you, allstate is a heartless wh--e. When the (Southwest) regional director comes in and says that “if your spouse has health insurance you should be on their plan” you know it’s time to go. So I did.

California employees are going to think the company is “terrible “. We’re getting out, but if you check out the business environment, many other employers have done the same in the past few years, in much larger numbers. It’s going to continue, as long as the regulations and legal environment stays the same. Two huge (hundreds of millions each time) in the past 20 years, and treatment of claim adjusters as non-exempt left the company no choice. It would have been negligent management if they didn’t move operations out of there. S---s if yours impacted, but educate yourself instead of saying “terrible company “. Employees in 49 other states might have a different perspective.

I left Allstate claims, CA in 2016.... after eight years I felt claims was not for me and decided to pursue a completely different career. It was a difficult decision to make, but I am glad I made the choice then seeing now what is going on.

Severance is the same, wherever and whenever it’s been offered. I suppose it could change, but it hasn’t for the past 50+ years. 2 weeks per year of service, up to 52 weeks.

It’s probabably worth looking outside California. In many parts of the country, it’s the opposite....

more openings than people to fill them. Nationally, we’re at almost full employment.

@TJnvWdf-5wyd Sadly the job market In California is not an easy one. Especially finding something that will even remotely pay the bills. There are just so many people that are applying for just ONE job. It’s as competitive as the housing market almost. The hardest part is how jobs apps are submitted online and they are looking at hundreds and picking and choosing from a piece of paper essentially, to decide who to interview. I’ve been there before and I’m not looking forward to being there again. I hope your husband finds something soon!

In time, (most probably within 18 months) there will be no brick and mortar facilities in California. There will be some roles (field adjusters) in the state to service customers, that report to an out of state office, but there will be no offices.

Which offices in California are closing? Allstate messed us over and laid my husband off here in Calif last august 2017. My husband was in management in claims and sadly still has not found a job.

If you work in California, and you don’t want to go to Chandler, why would you wait until they shut you down to be out there looking (unless you’re eligible for significant severance) ? Stop sitting around wondering, and move on, find a new job or career. If you’re going to stay in insurance/claims, there are 800+ of you, and a limited number of insurance companies still doing business in California.

There aren’t 800 claims jobs sitting out there.

Leases don’t have everything to do with it, (meaning, they could be extended, or terminated early) but don’t say “nothing “. Most will transition at lease end.

Unfortunately, this was inevitable, and if you’re not mobile, this is how it’s going to be until the end. As to the “when ?”, if you know your lease termination date, you probably have the answer to the question.
