So the appraisal process has started here in the UK. I’m thinking is there anything more demoralising? ‘You’ve performed fantastically well in the face of adversity given the resource shortfall you covered up!’ ‘But I’m afraid due to the bell curve I can only put you as an average, but please keep going and maybe next year it’ll be better! Or ‘ you’ve performed so wonderfully well I’m going to mark as ‘excelled’ across the board but I’m afraid there is no pay increases this year! So you going to have to have another effective pay cut! ‘

We moan about it, because this what keeps this site up and running. If there were no posts , then the layoff.com would not exist.
Why are you posting on a DXClayoff bog, if your not with DXC? Go post on XXX company your with
Let's face it if you are still there it is only because you are receiving a nice salary for doing very very little of any value or lack the self respect or energy required to find a new job.
This is not new. This is been going on for years. Why are you still there if you moan about it constantly???
If you chose to be there, then either stop moaning, or if you get sick, then look somewhere else.
A true statement, but for older and people who work from home its fairly nice gig. Its nature to complain and that what this site is about. There is really no GOOD information about layoffs on this site and dont know why I keep coming back to it, except that at least you hear some real news
Regarding “i'll take off my bra for the manager, i'll do a little lap dance too. hopefully he ll rate me the best.”
By all means try this! It worked for me, and I am male.
I can confirm 100% that the Bell Curve exists. As an appraisal Manager at CSC I was in a meeting where we were instructed by HR and Senior Managers to ensure we apply it. I argued how can we do this when people are doing a fantastic job and no KRA's etc have been passed down and that you the managers dont care about the welfare of the staff... Needless to say I didnt get on with them nor the way they thought they could just bully you around... Anyway I have now left DXC and at another large company a lot better in my opinion except the Appraisal process is virtually the same, remote managers and a Bell Curve that they are open about.....
I saw the templates to use for the appraisals and feedbacks . If its up to me to make up my own content , then I am going to submit "perfection" . The fact I have to write it myself is disgraceful. No effort from management , whatsoever, to engage in the process of communication and performance reviews . This company is no longer a serious contender for management capabilities . Why they continue to embarrass themselves in this endeavor is beyond professional reasoning. Ya ... and I'm leaving ... and I'm b--ching about it as I do leave ... because I CAN. So bite me.
i'll take off my bra for the manager, i'll do a little lap dance too. hopefully he ll rate me the best.
Leave if you can, I did and life is immeasurably better.
Been a gripe of mine for years. Sure you say there's no money but ffs how much would it cost you to say "you've done an excellent job and we recognise it"
That costs nothing.
They say "but if we say that then you'll be annoyed at not getting a pay rise"
Oh and of course i'd be less annoyed by you telling me that i'm only average.
Its just CSC BAU, but it grinds my gears. I put zero effort into appraisals, why should I even waste my time when its rigged.
I'm waiting for my appraisal. I will mas----ate on the managers face or wherever the cum falls.. maybe on the table or on his sheets of paper that they carry with them to look as if they did a fuccking study.
I'll tell the manager that i'm really happy and worked my tool in ecstasy. Even if the salary was not raised, my cocck was raised after all.
DXC and CSC appraisals have never worked.. The bell curve is a natural curve of distribution of most occurrences in the natural world, apart from unnatural causes, such as where management start artificially trying to manipulate the data curve to give 'natural' results that never occurred.
The CSC then DXC Managers:
CSC Pre-Workday. One Appraising Manager spent the hour telling me about themselves and then at the end gave me 4 short-duration operational actions as if they were KRA's and "If you go away and type up what I've been saying in the past hour into an appraisal form and send it to me, I'll sign it off..."
I remember another CSC manager saying: "Perhaps we use this session as a 2-way understanding of what you guys do and I what I do" Really? Do I care what YOU do?
Another CSC Manager: "Well, when we get this cr*p out of the way. Sorry, I shouldn't have said that, should I? But you know what I mean?"
A DXC Manager: "As far as I am concerned you are working at a '2' rating but we need to move you and others down to a 3 this year; but don't take this as personal. I am telling the others the same things. We're getting too many '2's and they want us to use them sparingly this year. So again, nothing personal" - David Brent eat your heart out.
@gtl Depending on where in the business you work it isn't unusual to have remote managers; sometimes they aren't even on the same continent! No excuse for the lack of communication though.
Remote managers rely completely on feedback to conduct appraisals; select from whom you solicit feedback with care...
I'm intrigued to see how this will work for the 1000s of people who still have no manager in the system. A whole load of ex-HPE people were put under ex-CSC managers. But ex-CSC cannot see the HPE Workday system. We effectively haven't had a manager for around 6 months now and the ex-CSC person who is supposed to be our Manager has never spoken to us and works in another location miles away. Should be an interesting first conversation. "Hi we've never met, I have no idea who you are or what you do but I'm here to tell you how well you have performed over the last 12 months"
I never found it demoralising, just a fairly pointless box-ticking exercise.
You'll not get a manager to officially confirm that the bell curve exists, and they de-coupled pay rises from the appraisal process a while ago.
I have had enough of the madness; my last day is in a few weeks time.
