Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

Have any recently laid-off B&N employees visited their old stores since February 12th?

I'm a former Barnes & Noble Receiving Manager let go during the recent layoffs. I have not been back to my old store, nor have I any plans to. But I am curious to know if any other RMs have paid their old stores a visit, and what shape they found them in, particularly the backrooms. Also, how would you gauge the morale of the (for now) survivors?

Yes. Visited store twice. Both times morale was awful. Lots of fear of what will happen from remaining full-timers who have benefits. Hardly any staff on floor. A manager on duty told me that the other shoe will drop soon and the remaining full-timers will be gone by end of year. Company thinks part timers will save money especially as head cashiers.

Those that call posters who are speaking from personal experiences liars are nothing but trolls. I know for a fact current employees are overworked, anxious, and don't have any faith that corporate cares anything about them. Your name-calling those who are living this hell tells me everything--/you no nothing about what is going on with these employees., you seem like someone who is being hired to discredit those with first-hand knowledge that things are NOT okay. It's a darn shame.

I can’t speak for other stores but our store is barely getting by. Fridays are especially bad because we get the biggest shipment of the week then and with the RM gone there aren’t enough people scheduled to get through it all. And then Monday is a complete disaster because no one’s had time to receive Friday’s boxes over the weekend... you get the idea. I’m sure every store sorely misses their RM. And if they don’t now, they will sooner or later. Things have been getting worse every week for us.

Former Digital Lead here. Been back to my store a few times. About 4 other people put in their 2 weeks within a week of so of the day. Almost everyone I've talked to is interviewing elsewhere. The store looks like hell, which is a shame because we had one of the better kept stores in the area. It s---s in a big way; fun while it lasted, but clearly this ship is going straight into the reefs.

I think it depends on the store and the staff. I have been back to my old store I agree with S6n6C1q

I wasn't a RM but a HC and I've been back to my old store. Morale is low. Everyone is searching for new jobs because they're afraid they will be the next. The merch managers (sales and inventory) seem overworked and overwhelmed and are relying on part-timers who were not very reliable before Feb.12th. I hope that with time the mood won't be so solemn. Our store was always a happy place and I want it to be that way again.
