Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

Bye Felicia!

My thoughts and prayers for everyone who got the rug pulled out from under them today. I did as well. 15+ years here and 13 of those years as RM but they don't care about that nor do they care about you. I learned that long ago working for B&N. They s--- you dry and spit you out. And I've been on short term disability since December so I've been out since then anyway. Well, at least I don't have to worry about going back. Not my problem anymore! Fortunately I was planning on leaving and I truly wasn't upset when my SM called to tell me today. I actually wound up consoling HER! This was my third store in three years. My original hiring store closed 2015, 13 years there. Then the one I transferred to closed last year. And my current/former/final one has had rumors of closing since last year and the rumors are still going strong. So I was getting yanked around as it was. I even said to myself that if that store closed I was taking the severance this time. So, I'm just having it handed to me sooner, that's all.

Heard from a co-worker that they let the one HC that opened today go. Told her only after she completed her shift. >:( And the other HC comes in tomorrow to get the ax dropped on her, if she doesn't know already.

I was always told how receiving was the heart of the store. HAHAHA! Joke! Just like the joke of a company that BN has turned into to. Maybe I'll hand in those "great" service pins they gave me to the main city store in my city and tell corporate to sit on them. I did used to joke with my original SM who hired me in my first store that I was going to sell them on Ebay whenever I was given one. She used to get so mad at me for that. Lol.

When one door closes, a better one opens. We all have to remember that guys! Better to get off that dismal sinking ship now. In the end they did us all a favor even if most of us may not think that way right now. This is the beginning of the end for them.

I think the OP is onto something. We should all send our pins to corporate. I have a five-year pin [that came to me two years late, hah!], and after tomorrow, I don’t want it anymore. How do we organize this?

Receiving truly is the heart of the store and I don't think corporate quite understands how vital our receiving managers are. Personally, our RM is the only person who has worked receiving the last two weeks so I have no idea how we will function without him.

I was one of those affected by these cuts as well as three other great coworkers. There are gonna be quite a few people where I worked at that I will miss greatly.

That's the one thing I will miss that I forgot to add that I'll miss the good decent people I worked with. They made it worth coming in for everyday. Not Barnes & Noble.

OK BN - so much for 'controlling the message' in the age of mobile phones...

@RIVt1eK-lbi Sure thing! You grieve, you process, and you let that crap go guys! I know it s---s bad right now but don't give that sh-- magnet any more energy than you already have. It's not worth it.

I just want to say that I enjoyed working with my fellow Barnes & Noblians so much. I'm not sure who else got cut today, but I did. See y'all.
