Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

I am wondering what special thing Humana is going to do for Holiday bonuses for the employees.

That is customary. Is it not? Companies all over the country are planning for special gifts and festivities for their employees in appreciation for their hard work and dedication. Haven't heard any planning in the Buzz talk or Hi Page. What will you be doing for your employees Servant Leader? Surely we will not be getting coal in our stockings.

I am layed off also but am lucky to have a husband with a good job. Yes, severance, true, PTO, no...use it on a regular basis for family obligations. Taking care of a dying family member. Five year old daughter with Leukemia and not doing well. It's hard at the holidays. Humana doesn't cover all her medical expenses and we have huge bills, and now having to deal w/unemployment and 3 other siblings watching her die. Also taking care of elderly parents. Finding employment is not easy for everyone. If you are a nurse, you are needed everywhere. Other degrees, not so much and some cities there are no jobs at all except Wal Mart. It could be weeks to many months before some of us find work. It was 6 mths before I found my dream job here. My coach insists we talk to her and share what is going on in our lives. I think she uses this against us personally and enjoys destroying other people's lives. I am glad to be gone. I get to spend these last months with my daughter at least. So to the bitter poster, you need to be more kind in considering others posting here. You don't know what our situations are or what we go through. I have worked hard my entire life to put a roof over my family's head and am the only earner in the house.

Okay, we get it. Humana is a business, not a charity. But please remember that losing a job is very scary. Losing a job around the holidays when you are providing for a family is scary.

If there are posters on here who seem overwhelmed, let’s try and understand this. I’m only writing this because the obligatory “Humana owes you nothing and your situation is your problem” poster is bound to arrive.

4snt: It would be nice to get a turkey or some assistance for Thanksgiving. Yes I was impacted, yes I'll get severance, but without knowing when I will be employed again, having just a little assistance for food would help tremendously, especially since we were let go so close to the holidays. Since we were told last week we were impacted, this didn't give my family enough time to sign up for food assistance at our local food bank.

You are early released, 2 months severance and whatever pto you had, so let’s say 3 months of income coming in. It is not your employers job to give you a turkey or to assist with food “so close to the holidays”. I don’t know how you do your budgeting. But even if humana gave you a turkey for the holidays, that may not really help you three months from now if you need food assistance. Your income situation hasn’t changed right now, if you didn’t sign up for food assistance at your local food bank before you were laid off, why now? And, wh can’t thanksgiving just be like any other day, without the turkey assistance? I don’t get it...layoffs s---, overall, Humana is very generous with their package compared to other places, and you’re concerned humana didn’t give you a turkey? If you are needing food so bad right now, please go to your local food pantries, you will find them in the CRD, but, there may be more issues at play here if you’re concerned you didn’t get assistance at thanksgiving from your employer

How would you qualify for food assistance over the holidays if you will continue to get paid through the end of the year and will collect at least 1 month of severance plus PTO payout? I'm sorry you will be in this position, but remember you will continue to receive normal paychecks for 60 days.

I was with HAH over 5 years. I never got any Christmas bonus. The first year I was here I got a certificate of appreciation for nurses week. Looking back this year, we did not get certificates for nurses week, probably because they used the cost for printing and postage towards severance packages.

It would be nice to get a turkey or some assistance for Thanksgiving. Yes I was impacted, yes I'll get severance, but without knowing when I will be employed again, having just a little assistance for food would help tremendously, especially since we were let go so close to the holidays. Not impacted and with HAH. I feel like being laid off is inevitable. I just hope the severance is offered when the ax swings my direction.

I was a Health Coordinator in HAH and was impacted in the first round of layoffs. We did not hear we were getting bonuses and I just happened to check my checking balance and there was a $1,000 extra check in there from Humana!! It was all hush hush, we never even knew we were getting a bonus! Right before Christmas 2016! How nice!! and THEN many of us got laid off on Feb. 2, 2017. Another big surprise, but not as good as the first one. Who out of the blue gives out the first bonus ever, and then just weeks later lays off the employees. Lucky me I ended up with a comparable job and I even still work from home. All I remember is how stressful it was the last few weeks. Good luck to everyone, I hope you all find jobs as quickly as possible.

Hahaha! Yeah, that’s it poster 1wts. You got us.

Actually the hedis emergency was based on claims gaps not whether or not surveys were done. So the entire team and multiple teams getting a giant list on Christmas Eve of members who needed eye exams - that was not because surveys were not done.

But nice try, sanctimonious one.

@Qg8ixY5-two And why were you asking people at Christmas about HEDIS? Because you had not done it earlier like you had been asked. We all knew we had to do HEDIS, some just didn't do it.

I wanna know where some of these spouses work?? Lol there is nothing wrong with wanting to be treated well!!!!

Some of you seriously need to just mind your business and stop judging if people want to vent about the shixxy insurance, let them! OMG

IT is embarrassing when I’m having to pay for my deductibles at the doc and they ask where I work... ugghhh cough cough Humana..... they know though... we have a bad reputation on paying claims 🤔. One of my specialists even asked me how can I stand to work for the company. Oh and I was RIF’d - so am I supposed to be thankful for my job?? S.T.F.U

Why some are so easily bothered by some much needed venting I don’t get. It’s a trivial thing to get upset about. If others want to vent, toughen up critical care and stop crying about it. If it offends you, ignore it.

I'm with @Qg8ixY5-iex. I'm so sick of all the pissing, moaning, whining and bashing! Think you can run the company better then get on the corporate track and run a company. Good luck. And before I am pounced on for being a butt kisser, I was RIFd too. I come here for info but all this incessant negativity is daunting to say the least. Complaining will not get your job back. In fact your negative mind frame will infect your entire life. It's crappy so many of lost our jobs during the holidays. I am personally affected, but come on. At some point you need to put your big girl undies on and behave as adults not petulant children. The layoffs have happened. As others have said, Humana owes you nothing.

@Qg8ixY5-iex who pissed in your cheerios? Don't like people being mad at this crappy company and how they treat their employees, maybe you shouldn't be on this site. Why don't you take your brown nose and shove it back up BB's 20 million dollar salary azz? Psh, what am I saying? It probably is BB himself who posted that. Or MF, just looking for another chance to jerk BB off

"I remember when we got to leave early the eve of a holiday. Then MF put a stop to that. They said he felt so badly because the hourly employees didn’t get to, so he stopped it for salaried."

That is just another lie from MF. The hourly people always got to leave at least an hour early on holiday eves or the Friday before a holiday. I agree that it was greed for numbers.

It's kind of sad how Humana tries to claim they have such great benefits, but anyone that works here knows that's a load of crap. Pto is generous, yes. But pretty much every hospital I've ever worked for was equivalent there. My husband works for a corporation that isn't small, but isn't large either. He got a 6k Christmas bonus this year, he has MUCH MUCH better insurance than we do, 401k matches more, his company gives him 1000 hsa dollars a year without making him jump through hoops to get it...i could go on. Seriously, we work for a f---ng insurance company and have sh*y insurance! And now we don't even get a raise in 2018. Fk Humana, I'm out.

I worked for a small place once that gave employees the choice of a turkey or ham. A few years later they changed it to a cash bonus.

I've been with the company 14 years and have never, ever, gotten a holiday bonus. One year we got a Styrofoam cup and a packet of Swiss Miss, and that was the closest thing to a "gift" we ever received.
