Seagate Technology (NASDAQ: STX) recently announced that it will reduce its headcount by approximately 500 employees -- just over 1% of its global workforce -- by June 30, the end of its fiscal 2018.

The hard drive maker initially expects to book a pre-tax charge of $50 million from the layoffs, but eventually generate $65 million in savings on an annual run-rate basis. It expects to start recognizing those savings at the beginning of the March 2018 quarter.
