I fail to see the significance of so-called "age discrimination". I am convinced that the so-called "age-discrimination" phenomenon is simply another excuse for incompetents to seek some type of retribution, and for them, it is strictly monetary and a means to sue for their own personal windfall. Think about it, do you think that the plaintiff would actually settle for "getting their job back" as a settlement? I don't think so. I am in my sixties and just got hired on at a consulting firm, valued highly for my years of experience, paid more than I could ever imagine when I was younger. Where is all the "age discrimination"? Was there "age discrimination at Chevron because they laid off specific people? There's always some kind of discrimination if you want to pick it apart. They need to lay off higher paid workers to be able to stay in business and pay the remaining staff. Most of the higher paid workers are older. Wow, Rocket science.

Wait, I have a great idea to make big bucks, fellow disgruntled incompetent employees and unscrupulous lawyers. Let's claim "discrimination" based on age. That way we can make a big settlement and claim that we are being picked on and cry like babies, instead of finding gainful employment which we don't want anyway since we are lazy and incompetent and worthless to society. We would rather just be pathetic professional victims.

Really sad that Nike has gained a reputation for ageism. From what I read on here it sounds accurate. I will be spending my money on other brands. Intolerance over any segment of people is unacceptable.

@PYf3KL2-3nsy has it right - mass efforts to weed out people. Age is among the defining characteristics. Crazy because focus was not on productivity, intelligence or collaboration. Alot of smart, principled people are gone. Less scrutiny for so many who show up late, check out early and accomplish only what they are tasked to do - even if going the extra mile would mean a better outcome. Just do it? Give me a break.

Who said anything about a law suit? I’m just saying they can provide the information and have the lawyers mail you the breach of contract terms and stop the payments.

No law suit, you just end up losing your payments. Probably can be done in a day, but I don’t think Nike would do that. Of course you have to “deface” the Nike brand in one way or another

HR is suffering the same fate they inflicted on others. Some special kind of karma at play. I have a good friend in HR and she is telling me they are ticking off names like a Roman tragedy...who lives and who dies, who leaves and who stays. Anyone considered too old or too tenured (anyone's guess on the range) requires special justification to keep on the roles. All in secret of course. They want to avoid large scale layoffs so they are steadily thinning the ranks by creating "problem" employees with manufactured performance issues. If your manager tells you that your coworkers are saying you are not a team player or you are not a good cultural fit, then start packing your bags. You'll never have a chance to face your accusers and they will twist your words to make a case against you. Don't trust in anyone's good intentions. Watch your back and have an exit plan.

@PYf3KL2-2qtj is spot on. Nike is not going to risk the negative publicity of suing an employee. They are desperately trying to shake the bad publicity over the last series of layoffs and don't want to appear more petty and vindictive than they already are. I saw three reporters, maybe more, post their contact information on this site. Give them a call and don't worry about the blowback. Just wait for your checks to clear first.

If you honestly think that Nike would sue a laid off employee for their severance for POSTING on here, you are NUTS. Imaging that in the Oregonian or Fox News: "Nike takes back ex-employees money and benefits" That would be the FINAL STRAW.

Well...someone really touched an HR nerve here. So you little weasels think you can intimidate people into silence? Your NDA means nothing when it comes to discrimination and corruption. Worried about people spilling secrets? Do you really think anyone really needs our secrets? The same people who manufacture Nike product in the morning are using the same material and designs to manufacture their own knock-offs at night. Same people, same design, same material. Why would I pay four times as much from nike.com when I can get it cheaper at Alibaba?

"Why the hell would HR want to spy on you?" Well, I will tell you. The paper work in the severance package is crystal clear....you are not allowed to disclose any Nike secrets, disparage Nike's reputation in any way, etc...etc.... Anyone who is "talking" on here is in violation of that and if HR can prove who it is, they can tear up their checks to that person and even prosecute.

I'm really interested to see what comes out of the H1-B but also the age discrimination that is running rampant.

Why the hell would HR want to spy on you? I promise you that anyone from HR looking at this site is doing it out of curiosity only. And regarding lawsuits, by all means go for it if you actually have a case - which is highly doubtful. If the company did something wrong, then hold them accountable, but I think you are talking about something you know nothing about.
