Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Will MAMR save WD?

No new news from WetDurdCorp. Seems like the MAMR announcement was orchestrated to preempt the good financial news they knew was coming from Seagate. Perhaps to divert attention from the WD/Toshiba ordeal and the poor business acumen at WD head quarters.

Likelihood of successfully launching a new technology like MAMR into mass production within the next 5 years is highly unlikely, while Seagate indicates they are on schedule to ship sample HAMR drives to large OEMs for evaluation in 2018, and production in 2019.

STX stock is up, dividend is up, sales are up. :)

@PVsbRSu (delusional OP): what is your absurd optimism about STX's future based on? Obviously, not reality. Judging by the Q1-2018 financial results reported by STX and WDC earlier this week, it would seem that the business acumen of STX's exec team s---s relative to WDC's counterpart:

Q1-2018 Revenues:

STX: $2.63B WDC: $5.18B (WDC/STX = 1.97)

Q1-2018 Non-GAAP earnings per share:

STX: $0.96 WDC: $3.56 (WDC/STX = 3.71)

Q1-2018 Cash Flow from Operations:

STX: $0.237B WDC:$1.1B (WDC/STX = 4.64)

Moreover, it appears that WDC succeeded in blocking (for the next 10 years) STX's pathetic late attempt at improving its competitiveness in the SSD arena via the acquisition of a minority stake ($1.25B out of $18B) in Toshiba's NAND Flash business:

So, if it makes you feel better, keep drinking the STX Kool-Aid (all "flavors:" HAMR, HDMR, etc.) while you can

Somebody drank the kool aide. Keep waiting for that 1% raise they will give you maybe some day in the future if you're a good little boy.

LOL, y'all must like working for WD. Likely getting paid by the word to trash Seagate.

No matter. I am buying their stock at every dip and making $$$.

Keep up the good work Seagladiators. My retirement fund is looking right fine thanks to your brilliance.

This sounds like it was written by Seagate's HR department. You are not fooling anyone.

This company is being managed by fools who consistently make poor decisions. Layoffs every quarter for the next few years. See if they give out raises next year (they won't).

Everyone I know is jumping ship. No one wants to work here.
