Yo. If you're making plastic toys with throw away packaging it's called landfill.

There is no social impact or sustainability. Only the illusion you in brandcom like to create.

If that's what you want go work at a non profit. It's a millennial message that makes them feel good but doesn't sell toys. Ask MCsquared. Kids don't care about fat Barbie or man bun ken. They want momentary entertainment. When they become aware of all this other bs that msnore is peddling they're out of buying toys. So stop the pretentiousness.

You can write all the stereotypes you want about millenials, but does that change the fact that they are the biggest generation, and will soon represent the largest share of the workforce and worldwide consumption? Does that change the fact that they are no longer interested in buying the toys that you deem worthy? You sound like someone who shakes their fist at the next generation, only to be blind to the fact that you raised them to be this way (or didn't do anything to stop it). My post was not meant to say that millenials are awesome. It was just to point out that consumers and their behaviors are changing, like it or not. Oh, and how Seeking Alpha is a ridiculous reference 😂

A generation of spoiled rotten brats who have been told they are special and they can have anything they want. Only to find out that not everyone is a winner and there is no social justice in the world. There are no prizes just for showing up and second place is only first loser. This next generation is so consumed by every little cause and issue that they've lost the plot entirely. The next generation will hopefully balance out these stem mom, granola eating, kale chewing, Coachella going, reality show believing, lobster roll instagramming, gluten paranoiacs w a more even approach. These new age hippies and their nasty so called craft beer swilling bootcampers are going to take all the fun out of childhood because of their own neurosis filled lives.

Wow, bring back the "old guard"? That is almost as precious as the bloke who quoted Seeking Alpha. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Millenials are currently the largest living generation alive, and will also soon take over the lion's share in household spending. Mattel doesn't need to go back to its glory days because that is in the past. The company needs to understand how to market to a generation that puts more weight on social impact and sustainability than how big the packaging is or what the perceived material value of the item is.

Last poster is correct, it's all opinion, all subjective, some real, some not. I take everything with a grain of salt.....However, I was front and center @ MattHell and witnessed everything he described in his article so in my humble opinion he's spot on in that particular piece.

@1dln be careful with Seeking Alpha - each writer is an independent contractor who makes money by gathering followers and publishing stuff. Writers are often amateur investors, like me.

Often they open multiple accounts, the first one is bullish, the second one is not. No matter what happens one is always right, and they gain more followers.

Old guard my a$$. The last thing the company needs is a bunch of geriatrics trying to bring back rat rods and the like to Mattel. We need some people who understand today's kids and not kids from the damn 50s. Get real. And that doesn't mean the no kids, no work ethic, I got a medal just for showing up millenials either.

Way too much arrogance at the top to rehire talented people who shunned because they wouldn't do the monkey dance for their upper mismanagement, especially on the Design side as the old guard is still dug in there like the zero talent ClicheClown.......

agreed. they should consider reaching out to some of the "old guard" and get the place back on course.

The layoffs have already started with the exit of the ineffective management team. More will come for sure, but Mattel needs to be careful - a company run by millennials will spell certain doom.

Just finished reading an interesting article on SA/Seeking Alpha and the analyst who wrote it said one of MattHell's big problems was "Mattel's bloated administrative cost structure" and it needs to "crack down on bureaucracy, internal competition, & excessive spending".

He also noted how "Mega and American Girl continue to decline". In my opinion both of these companies were doing just fine until all of the above maladies infected their way of doing business. Hell, I'd go one further and throw in FisherPrice as well because it to was fine until it caught the MattHell virus of which there is no cure. He also noted how he believes that the inventory numbers were misrepresented in Mattel's financial report which is not a good thing Mr.KF.............

He's not a hater because in his last sentence he wrote that "the world would be a poorer place without Mattel".......

I'd go one further, if you want to eliminate CPI, then I'd also eliminate the HKPI group since HK makes their ship decisions based on schedule, not quality standards.

I know of at least 5 SVP/VP's who were already shown the door but that isn't even the beginning of what needs to be trimmed. This place could lose so much fat/duplication of effort. Speaking of effort & wasted time when will these idiots trash that useless mandatory PLM that we paid 40 million for now that the moron who let that stupid system in is finally gone?

The entire CPI department should be eliminated as the HK CPI dept over rides their decisions in the end anyway so why have them? Dr. Snore & Market Research? Give me a break. Useless approval boondoggle trips to HK which could be done Video Conference so out of the loop SVP's don't make useless decisions/change of direction at the last minute because they can?

There's so much wrong here that I really doubt this place can be fixed, the Boot licking Cancer Culture has spread to deep state. I'm afraid the swamp stays..............
