I guess the theme of layers of management is taken from 9 layer French cake. It's so much fluff on top to manage 2-6 MSOs doing work. In COP any supervisor role with less than 15 reports should be eliminated. Anyway all they do is ask their staff for weekly reports and slides to present to higher management and show others work as their own. The old key job of supervisor keeping people motivated and manage their career doesn't seem to apply any longer.

Spot on, especially the presenting your slides as their own. About all they do. Give them the boot!! Sadly, management makes the decisions regarding...management. About as likely as politicians voting themselves term limits, or removing any of the ridiculous perks they receive via taxpayers.
Well said @MwtJeH6-1jaf.
Motivation, morale, guidance on projects, career advice, ensuring good communication, managing timelines and budgets so it all runs smooth - there are many things that good managers can contribute - but it now seems that this list is largely abandoned.
We get a lot of demands, and endless requirements for Powerpoints, but little of the supportive management most teams need
If you take the rewards of being a leader - then do some leading
Not just RBU ! SJBU has a ridiculous amount of leads and specialist that take credit for what is actually done by the mso's...
If you use this yardstick lot of fat cats and foxes will soil their pants.
