Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Got offered a Business Analyst role at DXC, should I take it or leave it?

I had no idea that there were major layoffs going on with DXC but I have just been offered a BA role and reading from the threads, looks like a lot of CSC people were being laid off? I feel horrible for the people who have been with the company for so long only to be shown the door...should I join DXC or not?

Do not crawl, do not walk, do not run... SPRINT away from this offer. No amount of convenience is worth the degradation you will suffer. You are worthy of better.

Working at any company there is no loyalty. Unless you own the company yourself. Generally as companies get bigger they start to let the market dictate how the rule their own people which most companies treat as overhead and care less and less. Having gone through multiple consulting companies in the past, they all treat you like a paycheck so you do the same. It's the colleagues and not the management that keeps you there most of the time. With family commitments I'd take the job. Taking a pay cut is nothing new for me. To feed my family I'll do anything.

OP here (one last comment)

So, I finally got the call about the offer and I knew something was wrong the moment she said 'They really like you'...They want to offer me even less than what we had initially had discussed, about $23k effing less. Like why did you even interview me in the first place smh What is wrong with this company seriously. The recruiter didn't even know about the massive layoffs when I told her and other stuff that I learned from this forum.

Thank you guys, I appreciate all your help.

Good call. Expanding your revenues by saving money (i.e. reducing workforce/shifting to offshore) is just spiraling down the toilet, trying to squeeze out something to make investors bite. Apologies to Ben Franklin (but not to his look-a-like) A penny saved isn't a penny earned - it's one less penny you invested back into generating more revenue.

Wall Street seems to be in love with this idea that the only good profits are those that come from increasing your margins on a constant basis. Lots of sales, but low margin? That's terrible! Chasing customers away, but high margins? That's great! It's the Walmarting of business. HP and CSC (and their red-headed stepchild, DXC) are everything that is wrong with capitalism these days.

OP Here

Thank you guys for all the feedback and I saw some news articles too, talking about how the stock for DXC is rising and they plan on generating revenues in billions in near future. One excerpt:

"In a March 29 investor presentation, the company outlined a plan to find cost “efficiencies” by consolidating the workforce, supply chain and real estate. DXC expects to find $1 billion in savings in the first year, adding 0.04 to 0.05 percentage points to operating margins. In the first three years, DXC hopes that will increase to $2.25 billion in savings for an added 0.07 to 0.08 extra percentage points."

I guess I won't take the offer after all...I have a secret clearance, masters in applied IT and years of BA experience but still having trouble finding solid in the past few weeks. Not sure if the job market has gotten tough in hiring or too much competition. The 20 minute commute to DXC seems just too good to be true.

If DXC is any part of CSC, which it is, then stay away. I worked there 9 years and it was the most dysfunctional company I've ever seen. Best experience was leaving there and watching the ship sink. I've seen lots of good people have their lives turned upside down by a miserable, money-hungry company. It taught what NOT to do as a leader. Horrible, Horrible place.

DXC is transforming.. to what time will tell. I was at HPE and now DXC, just got handed my letter explaining me to look out in sometime. Being a Business Analyst facing such a situation didnt quite imagine. Will move on with positivity.

If you are a Tamil and you can get some inside information on where you are joining maybe your new job will be safe. if not, Sorry Rest of India, not here.

Beware contract to hire at DXC. No contract to hire employees were converted in our group in the past year or so because of a CSC hiring freeze. Ask if the freeze has been lifted. And layoffs loom.

Hell no. DXC is moving toward 80 percent offshore or nearshore staffing and laying off tens of thousands over the next few years. Don't get played.

If now you are stable then don't join Dxc this time due to lay off and they will continue the layoff till 2018 , else if your job is not stable Then join Dxc and start looking outside also bcz no one don't know when they will laid off due to no project or work.. even they laidoff many freshers also .

Your skills as a Business Analyst/Requirement Engineer are easily transferable.

And your work, dealing with customers in US, cannot be off-shored.

I left CSC right before the merger and it was a total sh-- show from the beginning (was part of the POD).

If you have a stable job currently I'd recommend looking elsewhere. You can get something else and I would not settle for DXC. You'll end up having to explain why your looking to leave to any new employer and it will look really bad (my two cents).

As some others have mentioned don't settle for less, DXC will not promote you and will not give you a raise. Training will also be on your own dime unless some random client dishes out the money.

CSC was chaotic leading up to the merger; layoffs, uncertainty, offshoring/nearshoring, no communication. The benefits got worse and it was clear the executives didn't care about anyone. The mentality spread from the top down and created an environment that I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy for. I went through 7 managers in just over 2 years and reported to 2 at any given time.

From what I heard the new initiative is to offshore as many positions as possible. If the job you applied for can be done by someone else in a cheaper part of the world, it will be, and therefore you'll be no exception.

If you have that much skill, use it to get something better. I wish you all the best.

I agree with some of the other posters, take the job and keep looking. A bird in the hand.... you know the rest. The $2K salary shortfall could make up for the long commute you have and you have the third party contractor as a safety net so it could be a good thing for you.

@MRpsLFY-seq - How does one make up a $2k shortfall in salary with DXC? They aren't going to be paying anybody raises, no more than CSC or HPE did. I kept a security clearance and the training, was part of my manager's primary advisors on all sorts of subject... and my pay didn't even keep up with the cost of living.

As for the commute, yes, it's a hardship. I drive an hour each way on my current commute, but the company culture is the complete opposite HPE was. Based on my first three months with my NEW company, I got a bonus and a raise.

Avoid DXC.

Given your current commute and the hardship it is causing, you should take the job at DXC. No one knows what will happen at DXC and from what I am hearing from friends who jumped to similar sized and smaller companies, many IT companies are laying off and then rehiring. It's not unique to DXC, but rather systemic in IT right now. Of six friends who jumped in the past 12 months, three ended up laid off, two are happy, and one is downright miserable. With your commute, chances are you may be content at DXC for a while. You can and should always keep looking for something better with the status of the IT industry. Good luck.

Take the job since your commute is hardship and pain and suffering.

Especially if you are married and have a family, being close by is very important.

$2000 is nothing, you will make it up in a year or less.

Vacation time? You are already spending 15 hours each week extra - going from 15 hrs per week to less than 5 hours a week for your commute ought to count for something.

Whether they will hire you long -term or not is not important, you could be looking for another position within 4 months of the end of your contract; working with your "contracting company".

DXC do NOT have new technology, we use win server 2005 and apps that are about 5-7 yrs behind the current market versions. Heck I know one app we use that doesn't even have a licence.

I'd take it but ONLY for convenience and nothing more.

Yes, they will actively pursue you and them lay you off. I had two offers when former HPE actively pursued me to offer. Less than 6 months they gave me notice. I was working long hours..Stay away and run!!

If your current job is safe and stable, the stay away from DXC. If not, take the DXC job and keep on looking for a job...at least that way you'll have a paycheck.

Thing is, I already have a job with a federal agency out in DC but the commute is killing me (almost 1:30-2hr). The position is through a third party and it would be their benefits until DXC decides to bring me in fully onboard, so it's almost like contract to hire (12 months)...it's something I have never done before. The 3rd party medical benefits are good enough for me but the PTO is only about 1 week and annual salary is $2k less.

The only reason I am considering this offer because the location will be within 20-25 minutes from my house. Also, I want to learn or play with new technology.

If you have options, gauge the various offers on two criteria; what could be the longevity of your position (do they have enough work to keep you employed for 3 to five years?) and the benefits packages (401-K match, bonus, pay, vacation).

I personally would never work for a small company (less than few thousand souls). DXC is still a large company and likely to have many opportunities and could weather financial storms better. I would take their offer if there is nothing else that compares and use that opportunity to learn as much as possible.

There are many great employers out there who value their employees, treat them with respect and truly recognize employees as the company's strength. Based on the history of the the 2 original firms and the current layoff, pay and promotion strategy of The Offspring, you would be much better off holding out for a better opportunity. The company has great people and good managers, but even senior leaders are powerless when it comes to promotions, pay and who gets laid off. Recommend you steer clear unless of course you are desperate for a job to feed your family. If that is the case, take it and keep looking.
