In all the offices I've worked in safety is a joke. If there's a cord to trip over it's taken extremely seriously. But much worse concerns are ignored. Basically play lip service to safety if it's not convenient or would cost money to resolve. In fact, don't raise a safety concern that could involve money to correct -you might be next on the layoff list.
