Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Clint Eastwood and Relevance to Chevron

Clint Eastwood gave an interview with Esquire magazine in which he states that young Americans are both the kiss-a-- and pu--y generation. 'Everybody's walking on eggshells. We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren't called racist.' Do his comments reflect the current PC, multicultural work environment at Chevron, or are they completely unrelated?

Eastwood was 34 years old in 1964. I think he was already grown up by then.

@IInxZ6Q-6wrn, No, when Clint Eastwood was growing up, great white Republicans were passing laws to eliminate the lynching and other heinous acts against blacks, including the civil rights act of 1964, passed by republicans and ushered in by the great Republican Martin Luther King Jr.

Please don't be an A$$ liberal douche and try to claim something idiotic like "uuuhhh but that party changed and uuuhhhh, duh , they are all racist now." That's all politically biased BS, left-wing propaganda and you know it. The Democrats founded the KKK - FACT. Can't rewrite history.

Democrats have done little to nothing to help blacks and minorities that didn't hurt them more than help, such as addictive social welfare programs which discourages them to make progress in many ways. Democrats think that helping people is simply taking from those who earn and are successful and giving to those who don't, as if that's going to magically change the world. It doesn't and it continues to do damage to blacks, whites and all others who get addicted to the programs. There's the birth of the misconception that "republicans are hateful", because they are against such programs. That's like saying your mother hates you because she wants to lead you in the right direction and deprive you of certain harmful things.

When Clint Eastwood was growing up, black people were still being lynched. Doesn't mean we should go back to those days.

-2toi, Thanks for your service and the contribution that you and many baby boomers have made to this great country. I apologize for the adolescent idiots who have infected this thread like a virus. I can assure you that they are not Chevron employees and if they are, they will be cut like the little butthurt pathetic deadwood children that they are very shortly. They are only counting their days and crying like little babies because they know that their days are numbered, and that people raised with a work ethic, like the boomer generation, will be kept. They prefer to play candy crush and Facebook all day. They will be playing from here on out with no free paycheck for doing nothing like they have been getting.

Good riddance!!!

@IInxZ6Q-2urc? I certainly hope that Chevron i not employing these types of illiterates especially those who do not realize who created them and everything that they use and enjoy today and have no respect for their elders, their parents who brought them into this world. I can only assume that these are outside street-punk trolls without a woman, no prospects, and no life. Otherwise they wouldn't be making such pathetic spineless coward posts only while protected from the safety of their mommie's PC that they don't have the balls to tell to anyone's face!!!! LMAO!!

Chevron has faired far worse than its peers and has culled the boomers and stopped hiring millenials. Gen Xers in middle management with PC values are what is left at Chevron. The selling of assets and layoffs will have to continue for years until oil is at $80 per barrel. Obama's foreign policy has Iran, Iraq and ISIS controlled Lybia happily pumping oil at $40 a barrel.

IInxZ6Q-2toi, yeah those rice farmers in nam were a real threat to muh freedom gramps. So was Saddam because you know Kuwait is very important to muh freedom. And Panama. And Granada. America hasn't fought a war in self defense since WW2. And that was your "square" parents whose way of life was much too stiff and unhip for your superior tastes. I'm sure you personally helped bill gates and Steve jobs to revolutionize personal computing as well. Go f*ck yourself old man.

@IInxZ6Q-1xsj, You're an idiot. Baby boomers did plenty. They fought in numerous wars to protect our freedoms, Invented the Personal PCs and tablets you use today (Gates/Jobs) and created as well as ushered in the current multimedia generation, just to name a small fraction. Also - you did not even know that the poster that you insulted was a baby boomer, you just assumed, most likely erroneously. I am not a baby boomer, but I acknowledge them as one of the greatest, creative, hard-working and innovative generations that ever lived and hold a tremendous amount of respect for them and always will.

The Political Correct Movement in America founded on well-meaning intentions to promote equality in language and representation of diverse groups. However, this has now been oversimplified and misused by politicians in their attempt to win the favour of as many "minority" and interest groups as possible.

The struggle to be "politically correct" has made common people easily irritable and oversensitive to the words of others and their own words. It has created a society that walks on eggshells and that has difficulty being personal with each other because coworkers and potential friends can't joke around for fear of offending the other.

The use of the word "American" to describe the United States is being written out of U.S. History and Government textbooks for fear of it being "politically incorrect" and offensive to South Americans and Canadians.

Quoting a friend: "Someone shouted at me today for making fun of Jews. He said it was politically incorrect. That was before he found out that I was Jewish, and making fun of ourselves is a part of Jewish culture."

Soon first-year high school and college students will be called "freshpersons" to be politically correct.

@IInxZ6Q-1xsj, don't forget you also introduced no-fault divorce, mass Third World immigration, the removal of the money supply from the gold standard, and the concept of endless wars supporting a corrupt military-industrial complex. I've got news for ya gramps, Social Security is bankrupt, and millennials don't have jobs to pay for it anyway. It's going to really s--- watching your society collapse around you and being to old and frail to protect yourself.

@IInxZ6Q-1xsj Yep...the biggest mistake us boomers made was create personal computers, the Internet, the cell phone, ability every one own their own personal transportation and a generation of spoiled-a$$ed brats that think its all a free hand out. Its OK... boomers thought their parents screwed everything up too in the 50s, 60s and 70s.

That said, I expect you to not complain too badly when required to pay for my Social Security each month until you want some of it back yourself....LOL.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS NOTHING LESS THAN THOUGHT CONTROL.

Step 1: Cause people to worry about offending those around them.

Step 2: Once afraid to speak out, then afraid to think it.

Step 3: Once afraid to think it, it is never spoken.

Step 4: Control of the public is achieved.

CURE? SPEAK YOU MIND AND FREE THOSE AROSE ND YOU!

Why are you picking on that young dude, -xom? They are the future of our great nation, and led by president Trump, will potentially make it great again. All he wants to do is be left alone with the PC and pads/ phones that mommie and daddie enabled him to get or maybe even provided and that a couple of dried up"old dudes" named Gates and Jobs invented so that he can have that technology available to use, learn and play on while he contributes absolutely NOTHING to industry, technology or society at all. LMAO!!!

"while us younger people clean up the mess you guys made." What mess? The greatest country on the Earth with more freedoms and opportunities than any other - that was founded, created developed built, and blood was loss to keep it that way by all the "Old guys" (and gals) and the ones before them? And how long do you need to clean whatever "mess" you are referring to, child? You "young guys" haven't been getting anything done for the last couple of decades, that's for sure. Shall we give you another decade or two to make something of yourself? OH - I'M SORRY, IDIOT, that would make you an "OLD DUDE" at that point, wouldn't it, little prick?

Hey, I just do and say what I want. I don't care what others think. I mostly reserve my opinions to myself and lead my life the way I believe is right for me. I have my own reasons and thoughts. I don't bow or give an inch to political correctness for the same reasons pushed by corporate and government types. I'm an individual and will remain true to myself always.

Does it make your life easier to just throw a quick, racist term at somebody? A man who has seen the things I've seen... experienced the loss and pain that I've experienced... I transcend race, hombre...

Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism

I never got into the Native American mythology. You can smoke the peace pipe till your d--k falls off, but I'm not dancin with any wolves no matter how high I get. Not that I get high, but if i did my sh-- would still believe in our lord and savior Jesus Christ.

I just figured I might as well look the part. Just a normal regular engineer with no hopes or dreams. Absolutely nothing. Just waiting to die. Just like you guys.

His comments reflect an accurate and realistic view of many(but not all) millennials, this overly pampered generation and modern politically correct society, which achieves nothing but the stifling of free thinking, creativity, and free speech. Chevron is but a small microcosm of it. Don't be so naive as to think that Chevron has created this cultural phenomenon, or even encouraged it. Chevron is only looking out for their legal interests. Some of you seriously have to get outside, mentally and physically, of the Chevron box and look around you at the rest of the world. It never occurred to me how much employees falsely think that their little corporate world is the entire world, represents the world, or even affects the rest of the world. Get over yourselves. Chevron is nothing but a flea on the dog's A$$ of political correctness.
