Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

This is the best thing that can happen!

I say dump anyone who was Conoco or Phillips or Burlington. All of the old employees are hanging around just racking up retirement points to pad their retirements rather than caring about the company. Time for you to leave so we who are ConocoPhillips employees can get moving on to being a true E&P company, not a throwback to the ancient days when downstream and DuPont paid for your mistakes.

Someone please tell me what's wrong with having a work ethic, working your way up from nothing (some w/o a degree), doing every thing that was asked of you, and giving your whole career to one company? Most people see that as the American Dream. You work hard, you are loyal, & yes you earn a salary/pension that you can be proud of. Once upon a time, the Company did appreciate you & you were compensated for what you contributed. I can't help what the Company has become. Mgmt doesn't give a damn about anyone, old or young! It's all about the almighty dollar. There is no such thing as loyalty anymore. The best advice a "geriatric mouth" can give you, is to get a job somewhere other than the energy sector. The industry is not going to come back anytime soon, everyone is expendable, & Mgmt doesn't know their a-- from a hole in the ground. ConocoPhillips will belong to one of the other giants by year-end. Best to cash out while you still have a pension & something to reflect upon.

The original post is what is wrong in the US and to a certain degree Canada as well. Everything is black and white. If you are for something, you are automatically against something else. Certainly the stereotypes of the older and younger generation are true for some people, but certainly not ALL people. I would suggest if you are that upset with the company you should leave for your own health and everyone else's.

Conoco drillers don't coach or mentor. They are the most self righteous jacka$$es I have ever seen. Padding their own retirement while scratching each other's backs and saying how smart they all are and how they know all. What a joke. Schaaf needs to go. Only thing he is king of is his ego. Schaaf, take your minions with you! None of you care anything about others, only care about yourselves. Leave and go pat yourselves on your backs. They don't know anything about team work and/or team effort. Anyone ever show the "I" in a$$hole?!?! And they just canceled their contract w Maersk Valiant. Laughable.

Agree with NEWSFLASH - there is a two comp company, those with pensions and those without. Time to make a one comp company ...

Newsflash: That "loyalty" you run your geriatric mouth off about was bought by massive pensions.

The company has reduced the motivation (overall compensation) for loyalty, so it is just a job.

Getting rid of the heritage Conoco, Phillips, or Burlington employees is already under way. It is opening the door for big time age discrimination lawsuits. The new hires have no clue how to function without the older employees' knowledge. They lack the respect for the older generation's wisdom. In case you don't realize it, the older generation has survived the difficult times - economic downturns, mergers, spin-offs, hostile takeovers, management meltdowns, & cocky college graduates with Mgmt, Finance, & Acctg degrees who come in & think they know the 1st thing about keeping an oil/energy company afloat. You let the company spend millions training you, in all facets of the organization. You stick around for 2 years max, & then have the audacity to say the older generation is deadwood with out-of-date ideals. The older generation has seen the worst, survived it, been LOYAL employees, & deserve every damned dime they've earned over their long careers!! They've watched Mgmt run the Company into the ground. If you spent less time - surfing the Internet, going for long coffee, cupcake, & cookie runs, taking 2 hour lunches, bolting out the door at 4:30 every day, and complaining about those with the wisdom to turn your failing company around, just maybe you might be able to tap into some strategies to help your so-called Mgmt teams turn things around. Newsflash, you don't know it all, but some of us do!, Why not work together and quit running your mouths.

From my experience the younger folks look at the older guys as deadwood with out of date ideals.

No @ICHD1Vk-1wbm it is not just a COP issue on the younger "think they know all children" employees. It is the trend with many of the in-experienced and entitled children employees". Not to worry the water is rising quickly and those who know have a plan prepared!

The younger generation seems to lack respect and appreciation for their more experienced trainers. Is it a cop thing or is this now the new trend in the industry's???

Horrible post, only been with the company 2 years and you need the experience of the older generation.

@ICHD1Vk-ptz, I agree! Need to add a number of the so called enlighten employees (those whom feel entitled) that have been hired in the last 5 years!

This post illustrates exactly what is so wrong and broken at COP. It is always us vs them, good vs bad. Everyone is type cast. There are great people from all of the "origin" companies. Likewise, there are people who really need to go. The problem is that the entire company culture is rotten.
