Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

I got let go couple of weeks ago and miffed about it

I felt My Boss saved his rear and threw me under the bus. Have been a great worker all my time at SLB with great reviews. Now not sure what the future holds. I am pretty darn upset. Venting here.

Don't go back. My spouse went back to them after being laid off, and they JUST laid him off again. He had been with them a total of 14 years.

I got lay off right before one day to hit my 3rd year anniversary with SLB. I lost one month severance and my 401K cannot fully vested because of one day.. After so many hard work I have been done for this company, I felt failure about my career.. but your words inspired me... Thank you.

It's been 8yrs since I was layed off by SLB after 7yrs with them and have been blessed to see there is a way better way of life with other companies. When it first happens though one feels like a "failure" after so much hard work and what not. But other companies are thirsty for ex SLB employees because they recognize it takes a tough and smart employee to put with SLB style for so many years. I put in 7yrs with them, I don't regret it because they had good training. But if I was to do it all over again... I wish they had layed me off sooner, like on my 3rd year. DON'T FEEL BAD, YOUR EXPERIENCE IS NOT GOING TO WASTE, OTHER COMPANIES WILL RECOGNIZE YOU, BE PATIENT WITH THE CURRENT MARKET FOR NEW OPPORTUNITIES. ENJOY YOUR UNEMPLOYMENT AND TAKE IT AS A VERY WELL DESERVED BREAK. Just don't make the mistake of going back to them when things get better.

I feel you buddy, same thing for me. Loved my position, done everything to a T, always had the best #'s of the group, 2015 alone saved the company over 3.5 million. End of the day, Managers didn't give a damn. During my 4 1/2 yrs in this position I had 3 bosses push thru. The 3rd and current one was quite weak. Last fall I sensed something was up, between him and my functional Mgr, I smelled a con in the works. I started watching things more carefully and after a trick conversation I learned their objective way ahead of the planned due date. Let me tell you, its kinda odd to know your getting the Axe 5-6 months before it takes place. It was hard to keep going with all the work I've put in up to that point.

Long story short on this experience - the "Company" does appreciate each employee's input, labor, and efforts and don't ever forget that. Its the Managers that play the system, manipulate moves, work on others to steer things in their favor underneath their peers to save only their ass

I was let go too after many years of service and great reviews… new manager comes in and has no idea what I did… I am angry at times too… hang in there… I know you will find a new job and go on to do great things… take good care…

Have to agree with the last post, one of the surprising common factors of all those who have gone because of this downturn have found a new and happier life. Not always as well paid but happier is the common factor. For some it was quick and for others took almost a year but in the end everything turned out for the best. There is life after SLB is a common phrase amongst those who have moved on.

There is life outside of SLB. I'm not trying to minimize the shock and stress of being let go. I work (for now) for SLB in one of the field locations. Almost everybody who I have seen since they were let go has found a better job, they look great, are healthier and happier, their families are doing better. Doesn't matter if your his treats you like gold or like dirt. We all have a limited usefulness to this company. I wish everyone who's been let go the best.

Another sufferer of cunning manager and politics. They have the balls to say business is low and things are bad....but the fact remains that they have their jobs

I used to be when I got let go in 2015 but always remember you're not alone in your predicament...
