Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Concerned employee

All knows for a company to survive you must have new blood coming in at times, But is just doesn't make sense when a company expects loyalty from it's employees but none is shown to them. Here they are laying people off and cutting cost but still recruiting and bringing in new hires and summer interns. That is just wrong. COP does not deserve the loyalty of their of their employees when none is given to them. And I am referring to all management. We are not stupid people when know when we are being fed a bunch of bull and lies. I sure hope you people can sleep at night. Lies are lies no matter what form will be reckoned with in the end.

Upturn and shortage of skilled labour? Did you read the Q1 earnings report and bring yourself up to speed on what has been occurring in Oil and Gas over the last twenty months? I'd apply for a HR position if I was an individual of your intellect, you'll fit right in...

Just thought I'd look up COP

I just received an email from a recruitment company for expats in the UK from Alaska, so they must be doing the same!

The list of opportunities is very long,

From oil engineers to doctors and nurses.

Makes it look like there is an upturn and a shortage of skilled labour.

Or, maybe bringing labour from overseas on less money than those they will replace!

They hire summer students because they get subsidized by the government. The other half of the cost they get tax credit - so interns are basically free. Get educated dumbass.

@H7QJJ60-vgn you must be talking about the WCBU HSE department. Talk about a bunch of do nothing individuals who are overstaffed, under worked, and worthless. Sad to think there are 70+ employees making up this degenerate team of misfits. If you are in this group, I feel sorry for you.

Why not just keep cashing the ridiculously high paychecks and spend your time day-trading or doing something to better yourself on company time. Take advantage of the company like they take advantage of you. There is no loyalty in this day and age. Use COP for all they have.

You think it's just COP? It's every corporation, and institution in this country. You are a worker drone, and you are replaceable. If your job can be filled with a brainless millenial or an H1-B foreign national, it will. If it can be automated, it will. You are not important. You. Don't. Matter.

Layoffs are what we need. I work in a department within the WCBU and it is blaoated and inefficient as ever... I have one full-time coworker that is "sick" once a week and leaves earlier every chance they get. I have another coworker that is so incompetent that they our supervisor has to out of their to find something to keep this individual busy.

The management has made it clear that they are primarily concerned about 1. Stock price 2. Their own positions within the company. They aggressively hired during the boom years and paid very lucrative salaries. Unless oil recovers to $60-$70/Bbl, there will have to be continuous layoffs and benefit cuts (401 K match, stock grants, bonuses, etc.). COP compensations are awesome, but in this environment they can't last for long.
