This is just in case you are not already fed up with vmware and want to move on - A good buddy of mine was laid off back in November 2015, so not that long time ago - he was told that they were fine with him applying for a different position, but he'd have to go through the process again.

Why would you do this? A good rat is to swim and escape from a sinking ship!
Why would you do that? You'd get a huge salary bump just by switching companies, you lose out on that if it's the same company.
I am not sure how many people would want to do something like this - it's not like we will be growing going forward and I think that most of us are disillusioned about the direction the company is follo9wing
