yup its happening in design centers in asia as well.
first pass complete in most US locations. WW by end of week @1000 today. There will be more by end of year.
3 locations closing, Sacramento, Shrewsbury, Kitchener.
Rumour mill was accurate with the dates, 13 people laid off in Springtown IT
Lay off's did happen today in OKC
I received 44 weeks of severance pay (2 weeks for each year) because I worked at Seagate 22 years at the time of my layoff. Also, I was paid for all my accumulated vacation time, so I had about a year of equivalent pay.
It's not two weeks flat. It's based on how many years you have worked there. There is a separation agreement on the HR page of the internal website updated 6/15. You'll get 2 weeks of severeance if you have over 10 years of service, 1 1/2 weeks between 5-10 years of service and 1 week for under 5 years of service. It's based on whole years of service.
It's 2 weeks flat, then an additional week for each year of service.
The separation pay plans are available on the HR pages of the internal website. It's not a flat 1wk/yr thing
I believe the company policy is 1 week of severance pay for every year of work.
I'm sorry to hear about your experience in '08. I hope things are better now. Can I ask if they did anything for a severance?
I was laid off at the end of '08. It was a terrible experience, after I put in over 20 years with the company. I feel for all the current employees. I guess the best part of being laid off by Seagate: you can't get laid off by Seagate.
There were a few general "opex reduction" comments. Nothing pointed though.
Did anybody listen to the '2015 Analyst and Investor Strategic Update' this morning? Wonder if anything was stated regarding minimizing opex/"restructuring" etc.
I did notice the stock hasn't reacted well today, so I doubt anything was mentioned or otherwise it would have (shamefully) bounced up.
Multiple different rummors
okc site will close/move
jobs being shiffted to okc in jan 2016
Not sure what to believe.. could all be wrong, or have a little truth hidden on it.
The look on managers face when I asked about what big things are happening on Sept 9th are all I needed to know there is reason for concern. Large stack of folders on the desk in HR @ OKC site.
I'm still hearing 9/9 from multiple sources.
Yep! Late this week or early next. Just saw three of the IT "SCM" meetings scheduled for the 9th and 10th get canceled, which is really strange. Each one had topics on the agenda for next week too. Management pretty much gave it away when they canceled them.
My suspicion is it may be as early as this week. There are meetings tomorrow in China between HR and departmental managers which could indicate something is imminent. Seagate will likely announce the cuts during Wednesday mornings '2015 Analyst and Investor Strategic Update'.

"Just take it easy." - what, are you with Seagate Corp Comm or something? It's very stressful not knowing. I'd feel much better and probably "take it easy" if they just told me in advance.
Just take it easy. Even if you are laid off, when you look back at your career 15-20 years down the line, this event will be an insignificant one that you may not even remember.
I heard the same thing from a reliable source - layoffs Sept 9th.
Stop worrying so much. Worrying is using your imagination to create things you don't want. Just be happy my friends, whatever happens it's for the best.
Happy Friday (":
We're the victims of Seagate's decision not our curiosity. Yes, it is good to plan ahead but blaming the people who come here (or listen to all of the conversation at the office) is silly. We can't get away from it.
You are the victim of your own curiosity. You do not have to come here (by searching hard enough to find this website), read the 'rumors' and felt sad about it. There people would like to follow the rumors so, things can be possibly planned ahead .. such as not buying new cars, new house or even starting to network with recruiters. I would hate to be called into the office and be told to handoff the laptop, badges and etc and escorted out in a sudden.
Yep, the waiting is pretty terrible. It's hard to stay motivated and productive. Just get it over with!
Living under this pressure day in and day out its inhumane. I cant concentrate and be productive if everyday I freak out that I might be on the blacklist and my family will go trough tough times. Why cant they just give us a 2 weeks to a month notice so we can put our ducks in a role? For whomever up there that let it leak I really don't like you right now!
layoff won't be IT ppl or management ppl only, enginnering ppl also will be layoff just the percentage is lower. I'm in this industry for 9 years.
I am hearing 20% cut overall but also hearing that it will not be spread across. Some groups that are not necessary will be cut more than others.
Many of us have also heard the Sept. 9 date, and that IT will be the hardest hit, but Supply Chain will also feel a lot of the pain. It is worldwide. I have heard various numbers and percentages, but nothing clear.
Looks like Scotts Valley IT will be hit heavily- more than 25%
I hear they have had layoffs that happened on wendsday, and people came back on friday to pick up stuff, before 2009. Also hear its going to affect 20% of IT
They've happened on Fridays before: 1/23/14, 5/8/15. Not that I know that it will happen on a Friday but Fridays don't appear to be exempt from RIF days.
Hear that affected IT, HR, Supply Chain
I've been with Seagate for 2 yrs and have already seen 3 layoffs. None was on Friday as I remember.
Never layoff on Friday due to increase suicide risk on weekend.....makes sense on Wed/Thurs
Don't they usually do this type of thing on Fridays?
For sure something coming down the pipeline in Sept. Severity unknown though.
