Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Planning vacation and RETIREMENT!

After 39 years, I'm planing to escape (retire) this year, but I also want maximize my 6 weeks of vacation. Surfing around the HR website, I cannot find the condition on how much vacation can be taken within a specific time within the year of working hours. This was clearly defined when we got the "unlimited vacation". Does anyone remember or have a link? I really don't want to ask HR personally. Thanks! Any other tips on a "clean" exit strategy would be appreciated.

I retired last year as a non exempt. I was paid all of my 6 weeks of vacation in January. For exempt employees, this is not the case. You use it or lose it,

I'm pretty sure that the "unlimited" vacation policy only applies to exempt, salaried employees, regardless of Band 3 or 4. If you are non-exempt then your vacation use gets reconciled when leaving the company.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If you are a band 3 or 4 in USA vacation is unlimited as long as you get your work done and work at least 45 days per quarter

If you leave or are RIFd there is no penalty on how much vacation you have taken and if you too zero too bad

And if you are band 4 and MIP eligible do not give notice you are quitting until after MIP is deposited into your account

When I retired I used mor vacation than I had earned. They took the money back from my last check.

When I left aero Phx. 2 years ago, they paid me 6 weeks vacation that I had banked from when the unlimited vac. Went into affect so it may not matter.

You have to work more than 45 days the previous quarter. Then you must have manager's approval for ANY time off in the following quarter. Forget the concept that you worked xx years and are entitled to xx days off. Some managers may honor that, but it's not in the policy.

If you have banked vacation from the old old old vacation policy, i think they just pay it out on retirement.

This is not an answer so much as it is offering another way to think about the situation:

Honeywell's switch to "unlimited vacation so long as it is approved" essentially translates into "you have no vacation benefit". You have no vacation time if your manager doesn't approve you being out, and you have no six week allotment to use up or maximize.

So, if you're ready to retire, retire and put HoneyHellHole in your rear view. Then you are on permanent vacation over which you have sole approval authority.

Get your vacation approved, take vacation, when you have used what you need then retire.

I could not find a policy, I have 40 years service my manager knows I may retire at any time so he approves. I will most likely retire this year, so I plan on using my old plan 6 weeks at a rate of a minimum 10 days per quarter. If I retire after 3 quarters that is 30 days/6 weeks. If you plan to retire after 2 quarters use 15 days per quarter. Since unlimited they can not charge you.

I found a policy just after unlimited announced it said you had to work 45 days the previous quarter to qualify for vacation. So work at least 45 days each quarter.

Not everybody is unlimited vacation. I also have 6 weeks and if I look in our time keeping and system (TWB) it shows I earn 4.6 hours per week. It would allow me to use time faster than I earn but then I would owe time if I left early.

Unlimited baby! Except, I doubt Honeywell will let you take it and, of course, it will not be paid out when you quit. I suggest just stop coming to work (per unlimited vacation) and see how long it takes Honeywell to stop sending checks.
