Mattel would not waste time and money developing a movie based on a dead toyline, you sir, are clearly mistaken.
Major Matt Mason (aka Mattel’s Man in Space): huge toy line in the late 1960’s due to the popularity of the US Space Program. The line essentially died overnight once Neil Armstrong walked on the moon and the American public moved on to other interests.
Even if it's true, it won't help Mattel, it will just k–l Tom Hanks' career. Recall Mattel's desperate 1993 movie attempt, "The Last Action Hero". Up until then, Arnold had never made a box office bomb. Mattel's unique gift is changing all that.
If the infinitesimal movement in stock is any indication, Wall Street isn't impressed either.
I love how all you haters seem to conveniently forget about Max Steel whenever discussing Mattel Films? Did you even see that movie? It was seriously amazing.
Mattel's strategies reflect the insecure star-gazing of Mattel leadership. RD will endlessly pandor and latch on to anyone with a name, whether they are relevant to the core audience or not. Just for his own sc-apbook. I've never seen anyone so enamored with star gazing.
The HEMAN movie has been in development for over ten years and still hasn’t materialized. Lots of press but little production. Mattel Movies has announced something like eight movies and nothing is in production. Lots of talk but little action.
Mattel should be making video games not movies.
Well, the Barbie movie's been in development since 2013 and is still in pre production.
I wouldn't hold my breath for this, Mattel has a pretty consistent track record of announcing film projects that never see the light of day.
