Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

This will be our last holiday season.

Our store is on the death watch (word from NY). Sales have been disappointing as compared to last year. From what I've been hearing expect at least 1/3 to 1/4 of the stores to close by next April.

If you're still working at bn, check the title lists and see if your store has a white dot sale coming. If it does, adios.

“Across the board , all those let go, their family & friends not spending ,has hurt the company, “
Bad word of mouth k–ls businesses!
Read these posts !
Couldn’t be any worse !
People calling out bad customer service. Bad promotions, no bags.Dirty cafes. Disgusting restrooms.
You want to save money BN ?!
Don’t want to pay employees Heath costs?
Return ALL the toys, gifts and what books you have left ,to the publishers & companies you bought them from and CLOSE YOUR DOORS.
No one will be surprised if you did this. NO ONE !

“my siblings & Friends use do not use BN , at all !
Don’t tell me we’re not making a difference !“
Believe it ! Sales are way down. A lot of ex employees families were regular customers. Haven’t seen them since last year !
Across the board , all those let go, their family & friends not spending ,has hurt the company, big time !

I hope it’s their last holiday season!
I will do my part by spending the amount of money I used to spend at Barnes and Noble at Christmas ( for 3 children,my husband, 2 Sisters, their 5 kids= roughly $100 on each of them.) at Amazon.

I am a ex employee. My family, my friends, co workers NO LONGER shop at BN because of how they treat employees and the decline of customer service. I will continue to be vocal about this horrible company and will do all I’m able to, to make this their worst holiday, sales wise, in their history!

To BRONKO: In regard to the leases on those stores, yes, most are leases, but they do own some stores. One in particular in NJ which is a giant two level sprawling superstore on a major highway in a town known as the MALL capitol of NJ. Rumor had it the property was worth millions. This store is busy on a Saturday, but most the week (except holiday time) it's pretty dead. Staff has been cut way down and the second floor is like a graveyard. However there is a conference room for corporate meetings and an office for the DM. For this store, can;'t see how WATERSTONES will let it go on as it is. Maybe downsize it to another location on that highway and sell. The property is lucrative for another business. Large parking lot, too.

Well, @10RQlSg9, this one, unlike some other postings here, has the ring of truth. If this is the case, @10RQlSg9, start looking right now for another job, because the company probably isn't going to take care of you. It's early in the season, so you should be able to find something else that's not as totally horrible as working for this company now. Believe me, you don't want to be the last poor b*d out the door.

As far as a quarter of the stores closing by next April, I'm not sure about that. One thing that hedge funds have plenty of is money, and, for whatever reason this particular hedge fund bought BN, I kind of doubt that they're going to be shuttering a lot of stores, at least in the short run.

Frankly, I'm somewhat surprised that BN is still in business–I jumped ship because I thought the end was near–not that I'm sorry, I'm making more money now and enjoying life a lot more than I was there. BN really doesn't have a lot that I thought would interest outside investors, particularly hedge funds, apart from the (now very tarnished) name and brand. All of the stores, AFAIK, are leased, and with retail the way it is, none of these leases are worth a lot.

BN is going to die, sooner or later. The new owners can put Band-aids on the s—ing chest wounds, but, as the economists like to say, in the long run we'll all be dead. So will BN. For those still working there, please, please, get your resume ready.

It's closing time. You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here.

I ( and my family, and my friends, coworkers and their friends and families) all plan to not spend any money at Barnes & Noble this holiday ( or, any other day !)
Won’t make a difference?
We’ll post our receipts on BN social media !

BN will NOT be missed !
The BN of old is long gone. Dead AND buried.
This company that calls itself Barnes & Noble now, has already been missed and mourned.
Just close, BN, no one will care.

The employee reviews are such a joke too, they'll always find something to say so you wouldn't get a perfect review and no great raise.

“Really?....85% of the bnstores don't make their sales....... because of the greatest mistake they made when they let go of the most experienced and dedicated employees which also happened to be the core of most of these stores. Now we don't shop there anymore.... not that the discounts were all that great towards the end of our layoff. Customers that had special bonds with those let go stopped shopping there, not to mention all the friends and family of those thousand who got the boot who don't step foot in that c-appie company. Whoever bought this sinking ship will finish the job and there will be NO MORE barnes and noble. They will sell the real estate, let the leases run out take the money and run. ................Everybody stop being delusional and thinking your store is safe. IT IS NOT”
TOTALLY AGREE!
WORST business decision EVER !
It hurt the dedicated employees, the customers, and, sales !
Can’t wait to see it go under !
