Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Slowing attrition

I don't know if it's the cr-ppy job market or something else, but attrition seems to have slowed to a crawl, at least in my area. Which is definitely not good, because if there is no organic attrition, then they're going to force it through layoffs. Be prepared for what's to come, folks. It ain't going to be pretty.

@zuu -That may be true for the latest generation of young hires but many of the old timers, after taking the package, became more valuable to CVX(contract) as well as other companies after leaving. I am getting tired of the offers, quote honestly. Doesn't anybody work anymore or they just don't know how?

Feeling the impact of transformation.

Everyone who was even close to considering retirement took a package during the transformation(s), so no surprise that the was a lull in retirements after that. Should return to normal soon, unless there is another round of layoffs (in which case the last splash of baby boomers will jump to “express interest”.

There are so many ways to show (or not show) attrition. All depends on how you set up the questions or filter the data to show your case.

Or maybe people are just happy. Chevron is a great company with great benefits and work life balance. With the unhappy's gone we are left with mostly happy's and so those of us that remain enjoy even more our journey with Chevron. The layoffs have resulted in improved morale

@zuu, yes, except for the ones that take the package and then come back and work contract at a higher rate. Referencing a friend I know.

Most of attrition happened during transformation and about a year after from late 2020 to 2022. A lot of folks who were close to retirement also left because of the package that was exceptionally good compared to the past packages. So as it was said do not expect much attrition happening other than normal retirements

We have never had significant attrition, ever. Never even reached 5% and the overwhelming majority of it is normal retirements.

In my experience CVX folks find it pretty cold outside these walls. Something about not having any real skills, combined with inflated salaries and senses of self worth - make the real world daunting.

People aren’t going to leave with stagflation around the bend. They are going to ride it out with a nice comfy job!
