Poor scheduling

It is obviously very difficult for our management to come up with effective schedules. Do they not know how to do it or are they just too lazy to make it right? There had never been so many schedule related issues in any of the companies I've worked so far.

The company is going to part-timers working 18-20 hours a week. They’ve cut back on payroll as well. My manager has explained that to our staffs couple of months ago.

It all boils down to management favortism. I have known associates that have gotten day shifts with only being there a few months. I know of one associate that comes and goes as he pleases. Doubt anything wil be done about it. I work hard on the night shift and looking for help. Sometimes I get it - other times not. The scheduler doesn't seem to care how hard I work at night by myself. Plus, there is no overtime at all which means I am not getting paid truly the hours I work. Its downright ludicrous.

I have to disagree. If schedules were made according to availability and not according to what managers and team leads feel like doing, it could be a simple process. If someone has vacation or extended illness, it is known in advance. Cover it! The only reason for lack of coverage is if someone calls in! Cover it! What people go thru working for this place, deserves 2 days off in a row, to do things with their family and catch a break from the craziness. No one signs up to get to an early grave.

So many thumbs down but no one wants to respond.

Feelings will never outweigh facts.

When you asked this question, did you consider what hurdles stand in the way of making the perfect schedule?

Associates constantly changing their availability? People constantly quitting or moving from one position to another? Headcount aka the amount of part time and full time positions are allowed for every job code? Market direction on not exceeding 100%? Market direction on no overtime?

It's so easy to criticize when you don't know because you've never sat in that seat. To not know what managers have to juggle is one thing. But at least acknowledge that you don't know and if it's really important to you, why haven't you tried to be a manager?
