Don't be fooled, the movies Mattel plans to make will fail miserably, (if they are ever made at all). Last year we saw notable under-performers from the competition such as Ugly Dolls, The Lego Movie 2, and Playmobil the Movie. Critics threw out Playmobil with a 16% Rotten Tomatoes score. But Mattel does have experience in this area (remember Max Steel the Movie with a 0% Rotten Tomatoes score?). So I'm sure the next batch of Mattel movies will blow the competition away. They will get Disney shaking in their boots when these blockbusters are released. Last I heard they announced all of these movies but have not finalized any deals with the movie studios. Since Mattel is not spending any money to make the movies the studios want future royalties on all Barbie, Hot Wheels, AG, etc. toys. Nice going Mattel, you'll soon owe royalties on 100% of the toys you sell. Look out for the dates of movie releases being pushed back as they continue to negotiate.

Mattel doesn’t have enough money to buy a pack of gum, let alone a major movie studio. Maybe we can sell more junk bonds or we can have a giant garage sale or start recycling aluminum cans. We can lay off more people and cut ourselves to prosperity.
People forget that back in the early 1980's Sony was just another modest Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer, until in the early 90's they bought Columbia Pictures, one of the "Big 6" Hollywood studios, and became a major Hollywood player. Mattel is well positioned to follow in their footsteps, making the jump from consumer products to the big screen!
@zlbq+12QIvdjr Seriously, have you been living under a rock? Mattel's been making the Barbie movie since 2015.
What movies is Mattel making? Is this real? I would love to see a Barbie movie or a monster high movie or even a hot wheels movie. Is Mattel really making movies now?
Movies? What movies??
How can the movies b a failure? Didn’t you pay attention during Ynot’s interview with our resident movie pro? We’ve got so much to talk about! Big names! Big titles! Big movies! Just because nothing is actually being produced shouldn’t worry us! If nothing gets produced nothing can fail! Duh!
I heard that Charlie Sheen was also interested in the Magic 8 Ball.
The Magic 8 Ball and Viewmaster movies in particular are sure to be summer tent pole box office type gold for whatever studio is lucky enough to have distribution! Rumor is they're in talks with The Rock to play the role of Magic 8 Ball
Mattel is in movie business with Heman and Barbie and about 12 more movies. You doubters will be eating words soon when they all come out. Big movies in big screens just wait an see.
Train-Wreck incoming. But don't worry there won't be an audience there to see it
It's a charade, just like everything else it does.
With Noah Baumbach writing the screenplay and Greta Gerwig directing, what could possibly go wrong with the Barbie movie? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
If management wanted to shut down the negative sentiment, give share holders some indication of when the movies will be released, how they will be funded and ....... how much revenue they will produce. Nothing has been provided on any of these subjects. Just a mirage!
Over
Would you bet over or under if I said the Barbie movie will eventually have a 32% rating on Rotten Tomatoes?
Playmobil movie has already more than doubled Max Steels world wide box office total. I agree with the OP, Playmobil and the like should be seen by Mattel as a cautionary tale. Mattel needs to stick with making toys, not films.
