Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Rif next week???

Im seeing posts about this but no departments or business groups named. Im guessing no one really knows and its speculation based on past years? We can only hope for another VSP.

@192 not always the case! Legal can assist during stack ranking RIFs to ensure the red line is never crossed …

@185, BS. Managers no longer choose or submit lists. Outside firms were brought in to do the selection years ago to keep things fair.

VBG here and I was told next big notification for most groups will be 3rd week in November with December 19th off payroll and 2 weeks per year with a cap.
RIF will hit non directional centers worse than three main campuses as the march to have those be the big three plays out. If they haven’t named your center explicitly as directional your time has come.

@h1 People here are just waiting to be called for a meeting and are worried they are next. This is all after a bad year not being able to backfill leavers. this isn't just cutting away fat as some have mentioned, this is now cutting off limbs and hoping the patient will survive.

Cut more L&D. They are useless.

6-10% would be wild... thats 6-11000 workers. We only have 3000 us Frontline call takers, so even if we let all the call takers go... where's the other 3000 - 8000 coming from?

L and D was slashed twice last year, along with HR. Frontline already had a VSP. Where else is Verizon going to cut? Stores, VBG, Value... seriously where can we get thinner? Most people got laid off or outsourced the last 2-3 years. I guess cut fios???

Based on the numbers that are surfacing from across our business, it seems the 6-10% across the board looks to be true. All levels and a complete slash and burn... what is left will have a lot of work to su-k up. Will there be anyone left after the remaing folks walk as well!

I sure hope not. I make an outstanding salary but have zero skills. I don’t really want to flip burgers for a living.

We had our staff meeting with our Sr. Director today. He's not a rumor guy, but he seemed to be prepping us for big changes. He shared that he's heard the rumors and he thinks it's a healthy thing as there is fat to cut. 1st time He's ever mentioned anything like this. That tells me it real, and likely not isolated.

No one knows. This site is 99 percent rumor or trolling and only 1 percent right, and that's usually only when something is in the middle of happening.

No news here. RIFs are last week of October every year with a good severance.

@OP

If Verizon’s serious about fixing itself, it shouldn’t start with the mid-level ranks. The real problem is at the top — the 60–70% of directors and VPs who were parachuted in during the “transformation” years and turned the company into a PowerPoint farm.

They built layers of oversight with no ownership, chasing “strategy decks” while operations fell apart. The people actually keeping the network, finance, and frontline moving are the mid-managers and specialists who’ve been surviving constant reorganizations.

If there’s going to be a reset, start where the rot began — at the top. Not with the people who still know how to make things work.

Few people got affected from the Mid Market Side VBG last week. This was very sudden and all got caught off guard.

Anybody know for certain if VSP may be an option?
