Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Individual Market

Do you think the expanded subsidies will expire or will they extend them. I workin the individual business and am concerned that membership will be way down if these expire which means more of us will lose our jobs. Does anyone have any information on this?

The gravy train has ended! The stock price is back to pre-subsidy prices. There is no plan for further enriching the insurance companies with tax-payer monies.

@ma You didn’t get the Anthem branded stadium seat cushion? I got one after the socks. It was cheap and contained almost no cushion. That was the last swag I got though.

@z4 I got a pair also. They were Argyle pattern socks with Anthem on the side.

@12c we already have it. The government pays for the majority of healthcare in this country. Medicare, Medicaid and ACA.

We are almost a country with a National Health Care system. Just a bit more money from the government in subsidies and we will have National Healthcare.

stop offshoring, stop replacing older American with visa workers, then subsidies are not needed.

but 1 and 2 are not happening.

@ma Oh, I remember those socks. They were so small, I threw them in the trash immediately. No way they would fit my feet. LOL!!! Luckily, no other free swag came in my direction either after the socks. They told us if we wanted swag, to buy it ourselves.

@st
Exactly! Reverting back to original Obamacare is somehow a Republican crisis. The Dems wrote the bill!

@ma were they like those gripping hospital socks?

So, a big misconception is that this would represent some kind Co of never-seen-before increase.

All that’s happening is that we’d go back to what things were before Covid.

Granted, the “enhanced” subsidies were good for people.

It’s a shame the democrats controlled legislature and executive branch wrote the sunset provisions into the law.

@m9 - Wait?! You get company branded swag? Last time I got anything was like a zillion years ago when the company mailed everyone a free pair of socks. Maybe I am too low in the ranks for swag. Lol

Whatever happens, I hope we still get good company branded swag.

Why would GOP extend subsidies from a program they have wanted to get rid of for years?

Leadership did not plan for Medicaid redetermination. You think they will plan for this?

But here's the deal, has the individual business not already been planning for the expanded subsidies to not be renewed? One would think that they had planned for both - with and without subsidy expansion renewals?

I’m already following stories of people opening their new premium letters to see $700-$1000 a month. I don’t see how we won’t see a flock non renewals if something isn’t done.

I have zero faith the current administration will extend the subsidies. I’m willing to bet that membership will be down to start 2026. People just can’t afford their insurance anymore.
