Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Ageism is a real thing

Pay that goes with years of experience and acquired skills is an added bonus making sure you will be eliminated as soon as you reach 50. Fortunately, I counted on this, made some smart investments along the way, made sure I’m almost free of debt before I reach 50, so now I can mostly kick back and enjoy life. Any work on the side to bump my monthly income is entirely a stress-free affair compared to the full time job your survival depends upon. My advice: start thinking and acting on ageism on time, and make it advantage for yourself instead of the disaster.

Yeah, 65 year olds never have families. Google fertility rates, for Pete's sake. It's shocking how many people site spew demonstrably inaccurate ramblings here, even for an anonymous Internet site.

Yeah well guess what there are too many damn 65-70 year olds working here doing nothing. All the while people with families are getting canned.

After offshoring, AI will replace a lot of office workers in the next few years when most Boomers will already be retired. It’s the younger generations who need to really worry.

To the posters making sweeping statements about the value of older workers (or any workers, for that matter) - F*ck you! You have no idea what the value of any individual worker is. What you are doing is no different than what some grumpy Boomer might say about "all" Gen Z's or Millennials.

Agree with the general sentiment, but can no one write properly anymore?

This type of ageism is the result of common criticism of the boomers - their pulling up the ladder after they were done.

Pure shareholder capitalism like we have at WFC doesn’t reward high pay and tenure, it only rewards shrewd efficiency. They built it like this. If you are older, be ready to be thrown into the proverbial geeze crushing machine at some point.

Everyone gets old. But not everyone will act like an entitled DEI hire because they stagnated at wells fargo for 20 years.

Just like with the whining DEI's, it's not about your demographic: it's about not having value.

Everyone gets old. Show some respect. Your time is coming.

It’s not because of your age, it’s because you’re coasting and not worth the pay anymore

So post this in one of the other threads full of weirdos with 20+ years here and no self awareness. You snowflakes are obsessed with yourselves.
