How in the heck did Uncle Jesse from the Dukes of Hazzard get the chance to interview the CEO? He must be CIA.

People ranked exceptional yet let go were not strong employees? Seems like you have drank too much of the kool-aid.. You must think that because you are kept around, you must be superior to those others that are let go.

Have fun with that. Just wait until your turn comes to be severed from the company and we will all see how much you whine and complain about how unfair it was.

lol watching this "debate" play itself out over and over again is quite comical. however, the truth is that the pro-exxon ppl drank too much kool-aid to think for themselves (and yes, you are not of superior intellect. you work at exxon... not on wall st or in silicon valley. get over yourselves). and those that got laid off, were just not strong employees. its that simple. whether or not u want to accept it, hose are the facts

This could potentially go down as one of the biggest 100 lies of the century(s). Right after bubba from arkansas said he did not have s.x relations with that woman. c'mon man.

Tenure and knowledge is no longer considered valuable at xom. Of course there's no guaranteed lifetime employment. But when you have 20 or more years with the company, good work ethic, regardless of being high flyer or not, we were still valuable. Now, the only thing xom considers with respect to tenure is that the employee is becoming too expensive (i.e. a liability). And they need to be cut before they become retirement eligible, when they will become an even bigger liability. Absolutely, no regard for the human aspect.

The professor seemed like he was trying to prove something. Oh yeah my wife is a gynecologist. Blah blah. Trying to one up Darren. Feeling inadequate?

Having been in both cultures, the video really embodies both pretty well. Texas A&M has an anti-intellectual, good ol' boy attitude where it's more important who you know than what you know. ExxonMobil has told itself lies for so long it can't tell the difference between reality and aspirations. My feeling is that both are having difficulty adjusting to different times.

I am an A&M grad, not from the College of Engineering and I am scratching my head at this. Some of my professors would be rolling over in their graves at this country $&@ comes to the podium. They wore suits and / or business casual to classes.

Sure. The company may only hire people for careers, but that doesn't mean they don't cut careers short due to what is going on in the economy. If the business is losing money or if there is not enough workload, then headcount need to be reduced to manage. It's all apart of business 101.

Hillbilly Elegy "TAMU" style ... is perhaps immediate reaction to the seemingly very unfortunate visual and audio presentations ... wow ... this is what makes great entertainment ... this is better than the current Netflix version that does not even become come close to replicating the insightful book.

OP - thanks for posting this as 1+hr of the insights of senior academic and corporate oil and gas leaders .. this video met intended purpose ... to be very helpful to early, mid, and late career people to ask themselves the question would I recommend my children pursue education and career in this sector.

In a perfect world your statement would hold true. If you believe those who weren’t fired earned it and no luck was involved you haven’t been paying attention.

Your time would be better spent reviewing the stated leadership behaviors such as “caring”. Even as dysfunctional as EM is narcissists like you don’t last.

Wow - amazing how little charisma DW has. With little coherent thought.
The Professor's overalls steal the show.

Isn't it a pity?

Curious what your motivation is to be on a layoff site? Shouldn’t you be working in #winning instead of kicking us when we are already down?
