Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Just leave

Seriously. How many more years of worrying about keeping your job can you stand? Go work in a book store, a gas station, anywhere. Just go anywhere doing anything else other than making more money for that human bloat MB.

We need to all become like Bartleby….

Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street

At first, Bartleby produces a large volume of high-quality work, but one day, when asked to help proofread a document, Bartleby answers with what soon becomes his perpetual response to every request: "I would prefer not to."

If another opportunity comes along, yes, take it.

If not, no sense quitting. Just milk it until you get the severance package.

@OP

Also consider quiet quitting. Normally, I would not advocate this as none of my previous employers treated employees as poorly as OTEX. With OTEX, it not incompetence or mistakes; its willful malevolence, starting at the top.

The only rational explanation for the dystopian OTEX corporate culture is that they want people to quit so they can move all development to "centers of excellence", AKA "the cheapest developers we can find" without paying severance to those they are replacing. If the experience we have with our "COE" is typical, this will be a massive failure.

Don't make it easy for them. Do the minimum. Train your COE replacements slowly, or not at all.

See if they notice.

If they don't, enjoy your increased leisure, polish your skills, and prepare for your next position, which will almost surely be a massive improvement. If they do, enjoy your puny severance. Imagine the joy of not ever getting a WTF email from comically nasty MB, or his sycophants.

@yb Good for you and good luck in the new job.

Most of my former colleagues still at OT are actively looking for other employment. There's something about seeing all your co-workers being laid off, getting an increased workload, and knowing your number is next tends to motivate most to look other employment.

As soon as they find jobs, they are out too.

Heard that after laying off 100s in ArcSight outside India, MB froze hiring. So not many have been hired as replacement in India as well. No knowledge, no transition of such a large product so MB's strategy may ki-l ArcSight .

There seem to be a new VP in India who also seems to have no idea what he is doing and had no connect with employees. Mood in India engineering is to get out of the company at first opportunity.

You must have noticed by this time... Europe and their local workers council giving MB and its new ELTs from Canada a real tough time.
So they are reducing head counts who are older than 5-10 year with OT and independent / assertive, even though they are excellent contributors.

I think, I read, in one of the job posting, thy are looking for someone who is a "Yes Master"

Sometime I wonder, MB is treating the public company as a private, sole managed one. And people still stay in this company and expects a treatment of fairness.

Unionizing Waterloo, Hyderabad, Reading.. will certainly kick a$$ MB hard.

I'm not a fan of unions in general, but this is one company that could use a good a$$ kicking by a union.

It's really hard for some personalities to try to find a new job.
And for others, there really are not too many alternatives where they live.
OT employees need to unionize so the employees have power over the inept, rulers. The company would be forced to pay living wages and cost of living increases.
Unionize or shut it down.

@OP I hear you
Glad, I left it in time.

Heard, MB and their new ELT S* and her VPs butchering every team in name of saving 10B and sending all jobs to India office.

Its AI is a joke. MB dont have the thought processes to be a innovator.. He will trim many in coming months and years in name of AI, restructure, scale till he find a buyer to acquire it.
