Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

WFH-Friday

It was clearly a laughable question. I do appreciate the reference to fairness for those who can’t work from home. While we are on the topic of fairness - why is it fair for someone to make well over (using a low multiplier here) 100 times the company’s overall average salary :)

Overheard someone telling another person the other day that "most people still work from home on Fridays."

I've been coming in to an empty office. How true is what this guy said?

Over engineering is an oxymoron. Engineering by definition is neither over or under. It is what is required to deliver a solution given the constraints, boundaries and desired outcome. Unfortunately we have many in the organization who are not qualified to practice engineering by skill or education. The concern you voice is likely rooted in management’s irrational response to risk which ultimately is connected to their personal financial concerns as well as a shallow understanding of the technical realities.

I agree @xz+1jm0nw3gm. All this equity talk is bs. Some folks in the field have vehicle provided for them and we don't in the office. some folks in the office should have a different work environment than in the field. . . . all that is okay. When you try to equal out unlike jobs, you make both parties unhappy.

Its a tough call from the ELT but I appreciate the sticking to their g-ns. I only wish they were this staunch about other factors such as not over engineering or over safety-ing things to death. Anyone delt with our contracts out there? 50-90 pages of too much stuff from every negative scenario we have faced in the past 20 years. A contract should be built to handle the 98%, not the 2%. If we did that, we could shorten our contracts by 75%.

Some would argue the increased salary adjustment for those living in certain locations, without the option to WFH, isn’t fair. However, those who (used to) get to work from home didn’t get the increased salary adjustment, so is it really fair? Why take a one size fits all approach when our motto has been “fit for purpose”. Everyone knows that Bartlesville has an extremely laid back culture where people take the RTO mandate as optional and core hours as mere suggestions. I could go on but each location has its benefits and it’s unfair to compare them as like for like. Ryan shouldn’t have enforced a one size fits all approach when it’s way more nuanced than that. It’s also so frustrating to hear that we are “better together” when so many teams are distributed across locations and we don’t have the travel budget to be together.

Let’s it out it this way, I used to take calls and would connect to fix issues even on my Friday off. I will no longer do that.

Unfortunate that a few bad seeds have ruined it for the rest of us. I work better from home, better than hearing my obnoxious coworkers talking and laughing and distracting all the time. Plus the sickness and "must work while sick" is infuriating.

I’ve seen it as someone who tried to get work done during WFH, folks would take a longgggg breakfast break, then go on a walk for an hour at lunch, or my favorite reply when I needed data from someone was “I’m going to hop on the trainer for 120 minutes”… you all sc--wed yourselves on this one.

Classic. It's a pretty open secret that everyone who wants to work at home is slacking off. The stats say we were not more productive, especially over the last 12 months. The number of people using their computers at home has dropped significantly. I don't mean just logging in, I mean actually using it for work.
Most people feel more productive because they were doing work around the house or getting their shopping done.

The fact we have people that collect stats about who worked when tells me this organization is run more like a kindergarten. Do you have stats on how much more productive the organization was during COVID - when everyone worked from home? Do the world a favor and put your head back ip whatever it was up. Oh, and have a nice day

As our Competitive Edge leader says .”We’re better together” even though half of us are not here on Fridays and even more so on “B” Fridays, but who’s counting. It’s a test of loyalty.

I have another stats, 100 percent of L48 employees who had to work on their Friday off didn't collect paid overtime.

Working from home is classic loser mentality.

I have the stats, 22 percent of L48 employees that didn't login on Friday didn't take that as PTO.

Y'all played yourselves.
