Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Any success with finding temps?

Temps? Have been told to find staff and direct them to the temp agency???
Why are we recruiting for the temp agency? Isn't that what a they do? And then for every employee we find we can then pay the temp agency double the salary of what we pay the employee?
Brilliant way to save money.

How is COD doing? I heard they had to close because they were extremely short-staffed, and no one from home office wanted to help. They may have saved a couple thousand in temp costs, but they probably are going to lose tens or hundreds of thousands in lost sales.

I was one of those home office associates that would help out at stores during rush. I learned from the experience and used that learning on projects and other activities. I also added a goal for every one of my home office team members to work at a store for a day to learn what it was like.

We are still asked to help out other stores (1 in particular) but when we need assistance, this store always has an excuse why they can't help us. It's B.S.

Just reminiscing how stores in our region shared associates, store managers helped other stores AND associates from home office came out & helped the stores during rush( they usually left with their heads spinning, couldn’t believe what the staff did). Does this happen anymore anywhere??

If you ask me, this stink has CW written all over it. Anyway...regardless of who’s idea it was, it was a bullsh@t move. Just truly shows what leadership thinks of the field and our campus partners. Add more stress to an already stressful time! Like I said, CW way of thinking. So on top of cutting payroll for smaller stores, they are being asked to fill orders for stores that have more than enough payroll. Have your CMs Order your own textbooks.

Per the Quad he is not the President of FHEG thus the comment and my challenging you. He is President of Campus Solutions or something like that which is the systems (outside of POS). It’s like how Barnes and Noble has their DSS area. DSS helps support their stores but does not run them. Follow your ORG chart up and you will see. JH and CW 100% own this and they oversee the store operations, labor, team members, inventory, and this temp labor experiment. Talk to a RM or GVP that you trust and you will hear the same. Your GVP reports to JH and JH reports to CW. No where is RM in this but you may just have it out for him and want to blame.

RM is the president of FHEG. Anything that happens at FHEG is under his watch and his responsibility.

Here's a great idea, RIF everyone in the Ivory Tower except the VP's, Senior VP's, and Executive VP's and replace them with help from the Temp Agency!

Problematic employee? No problem, just call the agency for a replacement. It's a quick and easy approach to basic labor without the hassle.

You get three temps that can't fog a mirror and you just call the agency for a replacement - and what?

Oh shut down the store until they get there!

Now THAT's a plan I like!

Hey, Ivory Tower, YOU own it!

Thanks Ivory Tower.
If it doesn't work out like the temp agency told you it would then the store owns it.
Ivory Tower NEVER fails.
C-appy temp help making minimum wages who could care less about customer service.
OH HOW EASY!
When will blame game ever end?

I dont necessarily agree. I've hired many temp's throughout my career. Yes, it's at a premium, BUT, you dont have to deal with PTO, discipline, medical, dental, 401k, etc. Problematic employee? No problem, just call the agency for a replacement. It's a quick and easy approach to basic labor without the hassle.

I would like to provide one point of clarity to your comment. Though I agree with the issue, and I am also panicked about it, this change was not made by RM. RM does not over see store labor, inventory, or store operations. This decision was made by the EVP of Ops JH who reports to COO CW. That is the team that oversees this area.

Thank the president of FHEG for this great decision, RM! Combine this with the 70m eFollett upgrade and I think we know who needs to go. Redbox has no where the complexity of Follett, in fact I would argue that Redbox is even retail other than a vendor machine. RM has no in store retail experience.
