It seems to fit with the melt-away strategy. I suspect LE is looking at options.... selling something could be one of them. I think it's more likely that he will sell the DB.

Also, meetings with upper management may mean absolutely nothing. These guys know nothing and sit around and BS each other. When they come up with something that sounds like a good scam, then they go for that. I think it's how they come up with some of the hairbrained ideas that never fly.

Can't trust the upper management to do anything that makes any sense. They are just posturing for each other.

Oracle is a cult of personality. LE won’t admit he was wrong. I’d be surprised if he admitted that his acquisition strategy was a failure, and that you can’t build a new paradigm from pieces of the old one.I mean wtf was up with those telco acquisitions in the first place? That always seemed like such an arrogant move, like oh, we’re Oracle OF COURSE we can be a serious telco provider.

It's about time to make a yard sale of wall these products and invest in something that make more sense. Buy a big nonsql database such as mongodb and invest more in A.I. blockchain and other technologies that have some future.

Being sued lowers price and weakens bargaining position. This cynical Oracle suit reeks of arrogance, callous disregard, and fear.

DB is the only competitive offering that I had left. That said, the thinking behind the apps strategy - that O needs to own apps to ensure that they use O DB was sound - the execution was a complete travesty. Going back to the DB only strategy raises the same old strategy issues O has to start with: how do you get app developers to develop apps for the O DB?
Second issues is who would want to buy all the c-ap that O would like to sell? Not a PE play because the cash flow is not stable and reliable and everybody who’s in iT/ cloud would k is better than to buy oracle junk. So no buyers and certainly no bidding war. LE is stuck with his junk yard. That’s called truth and consequences

Other option was do nothing and milk the support stream from existing customers.

Oracle became re-do of the 1990s era ROLLUP. Those never went well. They usually unrolled and were left as what they originally started with.

Those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it.

Database company to database company...guess the genius samurai either couldn't rewrite history or just stopped caring for anything except own wellbeing. #SAD

Even if what was reported was true, that doesn't mean that any of it will actually come to pass. It's still really interesting to see what, if anything comes of this.

Sounds more plausible. Oracle gets a quick hit in the pocket for the quarter by selling the support contract to another company. Customer realizes that the old stuff is dead and is more likely to buy the new Oracle stuff. Its a win / win for the short term executive strategy.

Companies probably aren't retiring early, but probably are not using oracle for new projects. Now, Oracle on the other hand has been pushing new, new, new and try to get customer on new stuff by threatening to stop supporting the old stuff.
