Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Leaders main job right now is getting rid of YOU

Leaders at all levels right now are being informed in their huddles that their most important job right now is “holding people accountable to the metrics.”
The push is on for employee terminations out of the American workforce.....
Get as many fired as you can NOW!!!!!!!
The more that can be fired for cause, the less that will need to be paid in severance, unused PTO time and any other benefits that they may allow....

Save all performance documents and any documents that state the expectations of you in your position...
Download all performance documents that are currently on line and take home any that you have printed.
If you are termed, Allstate will not voluntarily provide you any current or former performance documents and you will likely not be allowed to return to your desk.
The rules are being changed as you go so save a copy of anything that you receive.
There is a reason that employees are no longer allowed to record company calls...because whatever is said is subject to future change and they want NO records that can be used against them in a lawsuit.
Trust nothing you see..
Trust nothing you hear....
It is up to you to protect yourself..your leader does not represent you...your leader represents the corporation...

The “fake news” is that Allstate gives anything that even remotely resembles customer service.

What $Ickes is that those of us that didn’t get laid off last round suffer because we still have a job. We have to deal with the aftermath, and now we get $crewed out of severance, and won’t get the extra money from unemployment for very long. But we are supposed to be grateful we have a job.

Allstate loves to tout itself as an ethical company..a company that does what’s right for policyholders, employees and communities....
For
Most of my career, I believe that this was true...
That all started to change when Wilson took over and as soon as Shapiro took over, Allstate became the opposite of their self proclaimed vision...it almost seemed to change overnight...
Allstate will now play any immoral game and attempt any tactic to “pay less.”
That includes playing with numbers by changing metrics without notice to trip up employees, try to wait until sick claimants die before paying a settlement thinking they will get it for less, improperly make their loyal customers pay more than they should for their risk (see consumer reports expose), instructing front line leaders to try to find a way to fire productive employees...
Allstate is now a cesspool of sewage...pure sewage...
If you are currently employed in this blue colored hellhole...
Good luck over the next 60 days...

I remember when Shapiro visited my office when he was the VP of the claims department. He attended a BI negotiation session...
On a case where basically our insured rear ended the claimant, he was urging us to try to find comp neg....
I used to be proud to work for Allstate...for many different reasons, those days are LONG GONE!!

To everyone who go reads this post,
Allstate is paying hundreds of millions in marketing costs to lie to the American public.
For free, you can offset all of it by using your social
Media platforms and your voice to tell everyone that you know and even those that you don’t know to avoid Allstate...that they have destroyed American lives, that they give awful service, that they now use any means to avoid proper and fair claim payments.......in other words..share the truth...
You have a voice...use it..

I truly feel for the front line leaders...they make minimally more than the adjusters themselves, are also maxed out at the 75 percent of the pay grade and receive NO bonus..
You are being forced to act immorally in order to keep your jobs (for the moment) and I know that eats many of you up inside..
This company has literally turned into an immoral bordering criminal exercise...
I truly hope that what Wilson, Shapiro et al are doing ultimately fails and that those behind it will meet with karma at some point...
To need to make people fail and smile in their face to try to justify it may be the worst job at this awful employee hating organization.
I tell every one I know every chance that I get to avoid Allstate with a passion and pray that you never need to deal with them as a claimant...

@aot All fair questions and despite home office jargon I don't see you all as grunts.

Yes I am a front line manager and won't say what area but in our area there is a lot of transparency if you will from site leader on down through the division managers and to us. There are no secrets with this company. Someone always talks. We knew about the layoffs in 2020 and those impacted in our area by name weeks before it was officially announced. Not saying all areas had this sort of knowledge but ours did. And no the assessments were not used at all. Names of impacted were out before assessments were even received. At least in our area. Other areas I don't know. Just a little background there.

Earlier this year some if us were casually told from those well above my level in my area that "reduction in force" would take on a different angle due to the "budget" for layoffs in 2020 was exceeded and by a lot. The big part was said to be that the cost of employer contribution to unemployment claims was grossly underthought and underplanned. They simply did not think with severance being paid that so many impacted would go for unemployment and they did not know with the pandemic how many states were allowing unemployment even with severance. Many states changed their guidelines on that due to COVID. Also employers that laid off during the pandemic were on the hook for the extra unemployment amounts paid out through the federal governments COVID relief plan. In some states this was as much as $300 to $500 a week per employee on top of regular unemployment that Allstate and other employers paid most of. And this is still ongoing. Word is Allstate paid out millions more than they initially planned in early 2020 due to all the above as the game changed later from their original planning.

Therefor they are looking to reduce severance eligible dismissals by any means prior to the well known layoffs later thus year. This is where this dirty business with metrics and attendence comes into play. We know our area will be impacted but don't know numbers or timeframes as of yet but we are told not as many as last year. But we are tasked to "take care of it" prior to that. Even though we don't yet know the numbers they want most taken care of prior. The less severance and unemployment paid out the better. Since I am not really playing their game I totally expect to lose my job as a part of the layoffs later this year if not before the layoffs.

Hope that helps answer some of your questions.

@xeo+1a3fzMaM

So you are saying Allstate laid off all those people but didn't plan for the cost of severance and unemployment?

I wouldn't put it past our genius upper management, but that seems hard to believe.

If you are a Frontline manager, how would you know?

And no, I'm a grunt, not HO.

Not surprised at all. Remember when Tommy Wilson flat out said "Employees are an expense and financial liability that constantly needs to be reviewed and kept within reason". This was said during the same infamous "the blacks and the browns" town hall.

As a leader I can say and concur that everything the OP is saying is true. In our department we are being told that headcount has to be reduced by at least a third "one way or another and at minimal cost". By minimal cost that means without severance and layoff benefits. This translates to "term for cause". Most states will not pay unemployment for such terms and appeals are not all that effective even with proof especially where the states highly back the employers. We have been instructed to do this through metrics reviews, attendance reviews, and anything that can be deemed remotely behavorial. The occurrence changes and recent metric revisions are all a part of this. I hate it as a leader and see so much wrong with it that I am not doing much of this and it will likely cause me my job itself. But there is no denying that this is the new "layoff".

Allstate was "over budget" with having to pay out severance AND a lot of impacted employees also filed for unemployment which Allstate was responsible for also in part depending on state. I know of former employees that have made much more over the last 6-8 months with unemployment and severance than when making a paycheck with Allstate and I say good for them. The way the company did not have to do layoffs during this pandemic these screwed over people deserve it. However this unplanned expense for severance AND unemployment is why Allstate has resorted to such underhanded and sneaky tactics. They want to term more employees for cause than layoff. Saves them money.

The OP is right on point.....
You are currently looked at right now as a problem solely for being employed....a drain on the dollars that need to be put into marketing, cold calling and the transition into India.....and of course the bonuses of leadership...
