Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Nawani seemed to be very nervous in the recent townhall

His body language was off and he glossed over the questions with one line replies, especially to the question on what the regulators have said or done since the last time they visited Citi.
and Why did E Drew throw the former leadership under the bus and was boastful about the data catalog (which is just a retooled version from a vendor I believe?) and other very average things that her huge team of 50+ have 'delivered'?

@xe

And we all know the "education" system in the Southern States are bottom of the barrel, not only in the USA, but also in the world.

They're lucky if they can read and/or write their own names ! So sad.

True. I've seen non-inflamatory posts and posts that don't name non-C-Suite Disappear.

It depends on which site moderator is on a RAG M3nstruating looking @ the posts.

Some moderators are obviously from Citi's favourite demographic.

Be careful. You can only make posts that the moderator likes or he deletes them. Don’t fall for his rage baiting. Other than the moderating lording over opinions they don’t like, feel free to post anything.

Nawani's godfather has to be Tim. I'm sure they must have known each other since their PwC days. Nawani's selection right after the sacking of Japan couldn't have been a pure coincidence because by that time, Tim was already at Citi. Appointing someone heading risk management as the chief data officer is quite a radical move and couldn't have happened without internal connections and relationships with someone very high up (i.e. Tim). Going by the other comments here, Nawani couldn't have been hired to fix the data part of the CO due to his competence and knowledge of the subject - seems like he ran risk management into the ground too.

Nawani was hired by Citi out of pure luck, and he is incompetent. He hired bunch of Indians while he was in ERM.

@ap Nawani hasn't delivered much given he's doubled or tripled the data team to nearly 1000 (including consultants from his and his boss Tim's former employer PwC). Finance's data office reports to Ash, yet they're struggling (since 2021) to getg data under governance for the 2052a and LCR reports. The story with risk reports isn't very different. All of these stgruggles have consumed 3 chief data officers so far but somehow Ash is surviving. Line of business data isn't much better off either. Some of the businesses are further along than others but that's despite Ash not because of him.

I don't support racially motivated comments ('mumbai central market' and so on) against Nawani - he's free to bring in whoever he pleases but some of his reports, who are Caucasians, are just as incompetent as he is, if not more. His own boss, who is also Caucasian, is far better suited for consulting fluff (which is what he excels at) than at solving real world technology and data issues at Citi, so this isn't about race. Both of them are incompetent irrespective of their races. Nawani is mostly clueless about the events that happen under his direct reports, but can you imagine the mayor of a town claiming he or she has no idea what's happening in their own towns and cities?

@OP

The guy looked so ridiculous in LDN's Risk. Of course, hired a bunch of IIT cronies and around me it was like the central market in Mumbai. Quite sad. Completely incompetent, but pretty good at convincing his management that he is indispensable mainly because they are as incompetent as him.
