Update on the NetDocuments Acquisition of eDOCS

As of December 1, eDOCS will be officially, legally, and technically integrated into NetDocuments. All current employees will transition to contractor status under a six-month probationary period.
In General, contractor roles don't come with benefits such as 401(k), RRSP, or health coverage; dental, vision, because they are considered self-employed.

This presents significant challenges—particularly for U.S.-based employees, who rely heavily on employer-sponsored healthcare. Canadian employees may be somewhat less affected, though ongoing issues with the public healthcare system and lack of private coverage options still pose concerns.

It's important to remember that employment is a mutual relationship based on performance, business needs, and market realities. No one is owed a job! Similarly, employee benefits are not entitlements; they are benefits voluntarily provided by an employer to attract and retain talent. These offerings vary by organization, location, and employment type, and may change as business conditions evolve.

While transitions such as acquisitions can be disruptive, they are also a normal part of corporate life. Companies routinely review and align employment structures to ensure long-term competitiveness and operational efficiency. The focus should be on maintaining professionalism, adapting to change, and evaluating opportunities with a clear understanding that employment terms are governed by law and contract, not by entitlement.

OT could have solve eDocs to many other companies that would have been much more hostile towards the employees. they held out for a good deal for OT but also for an organization that will cherish and grow the business. They chose a company that had the same commitment to employees as OT does.

Clearly you have never been bought by a PE company or you wouldn't complain.

Not true - eDOCS employees are joining as NetDocuments employees with benefits, not contractors. It’s in the FAQ they sent out.

Leave it to OT to find a way to show you how getting laid off could be better...
